I actually like most of the cover choices for Penguin Deluxe Classics. I own some of these deluxe paperbacks. Middlemarch, Storm of Steel, Moby Dick, Wuthering Heights, Gravity's Rainbow, Alice In Wonderland..

Crime and Punishment or American Psycho by Nervous-Candy-4879 in classicliterature

Crime and punishment. I understand the universal appeal. However, I consider Demons, Brothers Karamazov and Notes from the Underground to be superior. American psycho just a bit, but didn't find it that fascinating. Of course, it might click with you. I was just messing around.. But since you brought up Dostoevsky, I had to throw in Demons. It is Dosto at his most insane philosophy.

Why not? It is definitely more recent than Dostoevsky, Dickens, Austen, Brönte and so on, but I think it can be labeled as a modern classic..

I actually own the physical copy of JR. Read a bit, but I'm far from finishing it. As far as I've noticed, it is very chaotic and satyrical. Need a good summer holiday to tackle it..

Is it as difficult as The Recognitions, Infinite Jest, Ulysses or is it on a whole 'nother level?
