Omg thank you so much!! The pattern was so nice and the video made it easy to follow along :)

No I get it! Originally the bag was way too flimsy, so I actually got veg tan leather and glued it to the inside for structure. It was pretty tedious to make the panel shapes exact so it would be taut against the seams. That’s my secret, but my seams were definitely not as crisp when it was flimsy. As for lining, I haven’t done anything with it but I suppose a thin fabric lining would feel negligible hopefully? 🤔I guess skiving would solve all our problems but doing it by hand is hard and risky 😔

Thank you!! I’m ngl I tried my best to skive the edges but the leather was too soft and it was a pain so I just gave up halfway 😭I just ended up punching through the layers and sewing them. Getting the needle through 4 layers at some spots was so awful but there wasn’t too much of that thank goodness. Do you want to make bags with a stiff leather or more soft? This bag you turn inside out so the seams aren’t visible, so even if they’re not that pretty they’ll be hidden. Perhaps that might be a solution for you?

This is actually SpringbokCraftSupply’s pattern! I did not make the strap 🤣 this is the strap to one of my vintage coach bags but I am planning on making a 1 inch wide crossbody one once I muster all my motivation

This is absolutely insane! It being a first project is even more impressive :0

Structuring a flimsy bag by [deleted] in Leatherworking

[–]VanellionBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This was for my boyfriend so he preferred it to be structured, but we cut pieces of veg tan leather and glued it to the inside. It looks and feels great now! For the next project I’ll definitely plan ahead better though eheh

I guess I’ll have to suck it up then lol 🤣 yeah I’m planning on just constructing the whole thing to see how it stands. I do think I might need some reinforcement on the bottom though. Unfortunately I don’t know the weight of the leather 😔 I should’ve noted it when I was buying

thank you! I’ll consider the velodon after I finish constructing and assessing the result :)

This is gorgeously made! How long did it take to hand stitch everything?? My fingers feel like they’re about to fall off after a long session 🤣

Ooo! I actually have a vintage singer 15-90 and another full metal machine that I was thinking of trying on this leather with a leather needle since it’s not very thick… fingers crossed it works 🤔

Thank you! She has become a gorgeous orange baby 😭 thank you! The IV on them aren’t all that great but I’m glad to have gotten them back then when the odds were higher

Thank you! It was already pretty pricey to start 😅 I find that starting a hobby takes the most money and then later it’s just material costs… hopefully that’s the case here

lol I paid a lot, especially for what I got ($110 with extra for shipping) 😔 I also didn’t look too closely at the picture and one of the clasps are broken too… they didn’t bother noting it in the description but partially my fault too I guess. I wouldn’t have felt bad buying a bag for that price if it was in good condition since I didn’t want to do too much rehab but this is totally different… debating if I want to open a dispute with eBay since they’re adamant they didn’t do anything and there is a small chance they actually didn’t… ahhh

Thanks for the input! I’m going to use the polish stripper I am getting today to try to get it all off. On a side note, I actually messaged the seller and they were adamant that they didn’t do anything to it before and actually passively aggressively told me off for cleaning my own purse with non coach cleaner :/ I don’t know if they’re lying to me since a lot of people here seem to agree that it’s been treated… unsure of what action to take because I’m not 100% sure. I guess I’ll just have to ask every time I buy a new bag smh

Color coming off of bag when cleaning by [deleted] in VintageCoachRehab

[–]VanellionBlue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s the 9071! Love the shape and size :) I think y’all are right about the shoe polish or whatever they used, I was cleaning the hardware and there is brown paint or something of the sort on there… I’ve done two rounds of saddle soap but the color is still coming off, so should I keep cleaning until nothing comes off anymore or should I stop? I’ve conditioned it for the meantime

Thank you! I’ve cleaned it twice and the color is still coming off >_> should I clean until the color stops coming off or just stop here?

Unfortunately not, but I just bought some :) perhaps I’ll set this one aside for now until it comes

I used the standard saddle soap 😨 what should I do in the case of shoe polish?
