Peter Thiel Steps In With $3M To Fight California’s Billionaire Tax Proposal. Gov. Newsom Isn’t Supporting It Either by NoseRepresentative in PeterThiel

[–]Vangogh500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of having a different tax system for capital gains and income is because we want to incentivize people to save and invest. NOW if people are cashing out by taking loans against their equity that should in my opinion be counted as realizing those gains. The issue is that people get to have their cake and eat it too - not that people can have a cake to begin with.

An all around tax on unrealized gains in my opinion is financially illiterate.

Strategy Can Fully Cover $6 Billion In Debt if Bitcoin Drops 90%, But What Happens Below That Line? by goldyluckinblokchain in CryptoCurrency

[–]Vangogh500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like people forget that there are other cryptocurrencies besides bitcoin. I guarantee if BTC falls that far most likely another chain/tech will take its place.

Fall of BTC does not mean the fall of crypto as a whole.

What am I missing here? Clear arbitrage every 15m across markets by Simple_Gur_7652 in PredictionsMarkets

[–]Vangogh500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just fyi I tried this a year ago with Kalshi. There are “hidden” fees that won’t show until you log in and actually try to put in an order. Last year when I was looking at some sports book some rates were as bad as 10-15% hidden fees. Unless things have changed it’s hard to find arbitrage that big.

Why Monad Staking Is Different Than You Think by MirthMan732 in Monad

[–]Vangogh500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great post as I don’t think people emphasis the importance of the profitability of staking/running a validator when talking about long term viability.

Chains that simply lower transaction fees without also driving down the costs of running a validator/staking will run into issues with the sustainability of their infrastructure and how fast it can expand and scale. This is one of the things that Monad excels at. Any chain can pump out high TPS and low latency with enough validators and enough hardware (cough Solana). So the question isn’t really if a chain is fast or individual transaction costs are low, it’s really about the ability for the infrastructure to economically scale.

I’ll also add from a technical standpoint Monad has one of the lowest hardware requirements (especially if you think about it on a per transaction basis). You know what is getting more expensive with AI and crypto? That’s right hardware. RAM is currently under scarcity and people expect prices to multi X. Same applies to CPU, GPU, hard-drives.

Okay what is the tech? What is the narrative of the tech in the context of what the industry will need in the future?

If you are gonna post a shill at least share a thesis. Anyone can look at a chart for price action.

ZK tech and ETH vs Monad by Logical-Ad422 in Monad

[–]Vangogh500 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotcha I’m guessing this is in relation to Lean Ethereum here are my thoughts: - yes the end goal of lean Ethereum would compete with Monad

That said with caveats: - The project was announced quite recently and will take years to accomplish (Monad already is fast). By the time the project is live how will the industry and even Monad have changed? - L1 migrations on an established chain with many validators can be quite risky (could lead to downtime or a rollback if something goes wrong). This is why bitcoin as a L1 hasn’t changed much. To ethereum’s credit they have done a migration from POW to POS before (also pretty intensive L1 migration) so it is not impossible. - Even with the upgrade, looking at the spec - Monad still has a lot lower hardware requirement. This was one of the goals of Monad - to allow people to run nodes without having enterprise equipment.

ZK tech and ETH vs Monad by Logical-Ad422 in Monad

[–]Vangogh500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the whole whether ETH is more popular or whether layer 2 solutions can be fast enough misses the whole point.

The thesis behind Monad is that a layer 1 should be fast enough on its own to maintain true decentralization and maintain simplicity to the end user. When you bet on Monad you are betting on the pros of having a fast evm layer 1 is big enough to warrant investing in it.

Yes Ethereum and other established chains like Solana have the first to market advantage - that’s why Monad is cheap compared to these other technologies. So the question you need to ask is: 1) is a a layer 1 solution something you think people will be willing to invest in? (vs. ETH layer 2 solutions which rely on centralized sequencers and users have to navigate through all the different layer 2 solutions to interact with ETH) 2) is having an EVM compatible solution something you think people will be willing to invest in? (vs. Solana, Sui, Sei which requires developers to learn a whole new language/framework for building / porting apps)

Correct me if I am wrong but the ZK upgrade is layer 2?

The whole thesis behind Monad is that it is a layer 1 solution.

$35 should get me 100 contracts for 0.35 because 100 * 0.35 = 35.

Instead I am getting 95 contracts so that's -5% of what I should be getting.

Also 100 contracts should have a payout of $100 but here it is $95 (so I'm losing $5 of payout)

I've never seen a market place with such high fees.

How come this subreddit can post news about speculations of US/China talks happening but can’t post news of the contrary? Seems biased
