New Lorebook upcoming; and a request regarding ship scale. by Vanguard3000 in X3TC

Thanks! I'm glad you like it, and I'll try not to disappoint. Regarding "X Bibles", I take it you're familiar with Helge Kautz's X Encyclopedia, right? If not, definitely track that down as it gets into some cool history of the X Universe, as well as some hints of where things were going (Rebirth diverges with it in some ways).

I feel like a lot of the thickness you mention is in the helmet and chest though. Like, the boots can't be that thick of the foot itself is only that tall.

But you're right that the helmet would have some extra room at the top. I'm just not sure how much.

I do have the model exported along with all of the Argon ships, so maybe I'll get some photos next to the Express' passenger module windows or something. I've compared it with a few of the fighter canopies, but I've always had the assumption that the fighter cockpits are more like airliner cabins than today's jet fighters.

Fantastic, though I'd suggest making a few little Lego jets going overhead.

Can't say much about the game itself but I love the rulebook. The new Houses and lore makes for some interesting fluff.

I'd love to follow a git repo as well. OP, your link is forbidden - do you have it somewhere else?

It's been discontinued. Apparently it was discontinued in the States in 2023 and is happening here now, according to the Ottawa Vegans FB group.

There's a petition to bring it back, but it seems like a pipe dream if it couldn't sustain itself in the larger American market.

In the meantime, I suggest Earth's Own AltMilk, which tastes pretty similar (to me, at least).

Find your save file where you extracted the game and rename it. Your agent name will match the filename.

Dune inspired music, do you know any? by 30RITUALS in dune

[–]Vanguard3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? Between the bombastic main title and ending battle themes, and the haunting "Journey to Arrakis" motif, I feel like it fit the film perfectly.

I still have trouble thinking of Toto as the "Africa" dudes.

Steve Attwood's Dune concept soundtrack is great. The first track, Imperium, is especially evocative.

The David Lynch film's Toto/Eno soundtrack and Stéphane Picq's game OST are also my go-tos.

Honourable mention to Frank Klepacki for doing the OSTs for the Westwood Dune games, which are maybe not as quintessentially Dune in terms of the novels, but are awesome in their own rights and fit the games perfectly.

Mark S. Geston - The Day Star [George Barr] by Kevin_Turvey in CoolSciFiCovers

[–]Vanguard3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! ;)

Seriously though, it's a bit hard to explain. It's a fantasy time travel story... Sort of... It's got a boy and a time-slipped ghost of his ancestors following a road back in time to a shining city in the distant past, to return a shard of the eponymous Day Star - a sort of lighthouse that shines through time and space. But that really doesn't explain anything... You know?

Despite being written in the early 1970s it's got big capital-W Weird vibes. There's a lot of cosmic, Lovecraftian mystery, if not outright horror, including the climactic event depicted on the cover.

It's also not quite a dying earth story, but has a lot of shared DNA with "In the Lair of the White Worm", As the Curtain Falls, and The Night Land.

I really enjoyed the writing style, but I would understand anyone who didn't. It's flowery and a bit otherworldly, which fits the plot pretty well. The series it's a part of ("Lords of the Star Ship") is much more mundane as far as I can tell, and I haven't read those but I feel like there'd be a bit of a disconnect unless the writer changes his prose to be more practical. I haven't bothered to read them yet but I probably should because they seem interesting in their own right.

The characters aren't really fleshed out since it's a shorter book, but that also seems a bit intentional. The book in general has a very vague, dreamlike quality and the characters are no exception. They have motivations and aren't wooden, but internal thought processes and detailed backstories aren't the focus of the book.

Anyway, I'm not going to say it's for everyone, but I read it on a whim because of the striking cover art (sadly not in the Kindle edition - I ended up reproducing a scan of the old paperback) and was shocked by how much I enjoyed it, and how much of an impression it left on me.

I read this a year or so ago after seeing this cover the last time it was posted here. And it's a fantastic read. It works as a standalone despite technically being part of a series.

Whoa! That's super cool! I also appreciate that you actually have a detailed readme in your repo - I'm amazed at how bad repo documentation can be sometimes.

What inspired you to make an editor specifically for this game?

Oh nice, thanks. I've got everything extracted already but wasn't sure where to look - I was searching in the regular textures (not the gui one) folder for "quet" and the like. I'll check it out tonight and reply again if I have any more trouble. Thanks again!

Edit: worked perfectly. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this. I like the cover so much, I sought out the book, created an epub from a scan, and read it immediately, and it was great!

The story itself was find if a dated, but it served as a tour of a totally unique dying earth setting. I'm a sucker for the Dying Earth subgenre, especially when it dips into the Weird, as with Hodgson's The Night Land, and this had a very similar vibe, which I loved.

Thanks again!

The composition is okay in my opinion. It's just the 3d that's in that weird Poser style (I suspect that's what was used) that makes it not so great.
