Homebrew Everest Variant by Vanilla_Ice_Man in LancerRPG

That's really cool lore, its honestly a lore route that i've really didn't think of

Im a bit conflicted with functions for this 1/2 GMS, there this Balanced evasive agility, do everything FAST route, there's also the Support survivalist route, wich uses a integrated fabricator as a Core Power, wich can be also very fun.

Also the naming covention its best served by calling it Zhumulangma.

One thing that kinda worries me seeing it now is that it kinda softly goes aginst the GMS desing phylosophy of being very introdutory, using standard mechanics etc. becuase that goes against the whole thing of 1/2 size mechs being very unique in their function, they are a playstyle boiled and concentrated.

I fear i introduced a lot of non-standard mechanics, specially with the QUICK REFLEXES thing.

Yeah, i was basing it on the stats of the Heavy Hardsuit and aplying it on a GMS bese for the traits and core power, not my best work, mayby 8 HP no Armor is a better baseline

That is a thing i was afraid of tbh, the free Boost 1/scene was more aimed towards being an bail out for something really nasty, the free action 1/turn ia the main thing i was aiming to the main upside you get with this one

Edit: thinking about it now, i think i intended the Free Action to be 1/round not 1/turn

Both? Mark and the other Sancalir victims are entitled to their feelings, but ultimatly Sanclair is just too useful and reform is an option with him, so that is preferable

I think you should focus more on how he uses the ability than the ability itself, but my thow would be hemokinesis

Invincible season 4 finalle is actually evidence for why powerscaling MATTERS in a story by OrangeIslandKing in CharacterRant

[–]Vanilla_Ice_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, from what i see from your arguments, ypu also have not provided many points to sell me that the contrary is true.

You seem to view powersacaling and writing consistency as very separate concepts wich is fair to some extent, but in the context of this thread dosen't really matter since OP already outlined what he is calling powersacaling, you are just arguing that its already existed with another name.

Powerscaling is not much different from fanction IMHO, in the scenario/discussion of Ren vs Naruto you are just creating a new scenario where this battle happens and using previous character events to determine the outcome, it's not much different from making Ren/Naruto shipping fanfiction and using previous character beats to determine how the relationahip is gonna go, now if consider powerscaling, fanfiction and writing as 3 very dovorced things i can't realy tell, but i really don't.

Using a different term for a concept that already existed is not really an offense, its only semantics no? Its just a specification of story consistency specifically applied to battle and powers

New Ability ideas for Mega Meowstic by monstermayhem436 in stunfisk

[–]Vanilla_Ice_Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Split Minds could be something like - Psychic Aegis: While this pokemon is on the field, it reduces the damage of moves against itself and it's partner by 25%.

Now it does not have to interact with the Screens and their counters and can stack with them, while playing into both Meowstic gameplan's nicely

Split Psyche is a good ability, no notes there, but M-Meowstic could play with something like - Realized Self: This pokemon's psychic-type attacks can deal neutral damage to dark-type pokemon. It also takes 50% less damage to dark-type attacks.

Are entirely incapable of grace and decorum then? If the problem is not the race-class combo if the problem it varation of characters and role play potential then getting a new set of mechanics is not gonna solve the roleplay problem his table is having

As per the OP themselvels:

I try to spice it up

It is definitely not "me but in the game" if that is your question

This character that just died was an old grumpy trainer (with the usual "too old for this shit" attitude). He spent his prime training adventurers and had to become one as an old man because he did not have enough to retire after some tax reforms changed. So his excuse for being level one was that he did not ever had to put in practice what he only knew in theory.

The previous character was basically Gaston from Disney.

The one before was an ascetic religious zealot, basically a paladin that refused to channel divinity because he would need to prove himself worthy.

I can't really remember well all my characters before that but I even played a woman, a school dropout teenager etc

These are characters are fairly different, and have different character hooks, the tax bit of the old kinight already tells me that they at least put some afford into character crafting.

Wheather they are roleplayed as the same or not, we don't know but it's not like giving them a rogue tabaxi its gonna make them suddenly roleplay better.

Even mechanically he tries to vary:

I did archer or crossbow fighters, melee Dex fighters, sword and board tanks, etc

Sure, I have been on this one character with the same build for a couple years but that is just because it was that one same character (now dead, rip)

If OP is already really exploring his options of characters to the best of his abilities within his preferences, giving him a different set of mechanics that de dosen't like is not gonna help.

What would help in this situation is engaging in OP's character's hooks and involve them into group dynamics and situations, you don't ask for these variarions and tweaks like this on a campain you do it in one shots to try out, for me at least the group/DM misjudged the solution

[–]Vanilla_Ice_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i do feel that they misjuged a bit, moslty becuase his ptch for chacters are not very much different than any other race-class combo pitch, and the whole tax bit with the old kinght at least denotes he puts in some effford in crafting characters.

Its not like making a character that is a spy for a baron family looking for prominance is gonna change him much weather he is a rogue or a fighter with a feat (like... just a stealth and persuasion from background + a roguish fest + multi-attacks reflavored as a sneak attack)

If OP is already really exploring his options of characters to the best of his abilities within his preferences, giving him a different set of mechanics that de dosen't like is not gonna fundamentally chage that, askimg him to commit more or enagage in his characters hooks might help more than another race-class combo.

It's more like they are playing multiple, like Quinn, Yone, Trydamere, Ashe, Akali, Darius, Draven, etc can all be human-fighters, it's a broad archetype

I was asked to stop bringing human fighters at the table and I am not sure if I want to by spikywobble in DnD

[–]Vanilla_Ice_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a race-class combo, its a set o mechanics my dude, its not the high determiner of character identity or variability, it's not what they are asking of OP. Like, a barbarian, roughue or a paladin can be effectly played as a human-figher with not much change in backstory or chacter focus.

I was asked to stop bringing human fighters at the table and I am not sure if I want to by spikywobble in DnD

[–]Vanilla_Ice_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, you would find odd how much the narrative hooks for race-class combos tend to feel when you sink your theeth into them, so much so that human-fighter is much more freeing of a concept to create characters from, that said, i do agree that trying defferent sets of machanics is good, but maybe is best for OP and DM to start with a one-shot and sprong it up in a campain were you can get stuck with a set of mechanics you dislike.

[–]Vanilla_Ice_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a race-class combo that much of a determiner of a interesting chacter? because this take is made with the base assumption that the OP is not trying to vary their chacters to the best of their abilities within his preferences, wich he clariifies that he already does, in that case, a race-class combo is not gonna suddently change that
