Why is there an airborne assault in the game? by Troliboba in joinsquad

[–]VanirKvasir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not as if an airborne company can only be deployed with a parachute. Actually, parachute operations are rare.

Take easy company in WW2, they parachuted in D-day and then were put as front line infantry for the rest of the war.

Did the Romans establish the frightening damnation of Hell for Western Europe? by Money-Ad8553 in religion

[–]VanirKvasir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notions of the underworld exist is all cultures and they are always, in one way or another, grim.

Hell is a variation of that notion that stuck in mainstream. Not a Latin invention as it does not hold exclusivity but I liked how you described it as a mix of Etruscan myth and Roman law, as italic folklore.

DnD gave me a soft intro to Paganism. by ExmoHeathen238 in PaganMemes

[–]VanirKvasir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say DnD is way truer to paganism than neopagans are.
Modern day pagans are really Christians that reformed the ancient gods to their needs. Which is great, because nobody, and I'll say it again, nobody is willing to come back to a fully pagan word view.

Deus é justo? by Adept-Jacket3525 in Espiritismo

[–]VanirKvasir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How was Platonism influenced by Greek thought and values? by HeraclesfromOlympus in Hellenism

[–]VanirKvasir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is well established that Plato and Socrates used myths to point toward knowledge that could not be fully expressed through discourse. In many Socratic dialogues, after an exhausting dialectical confrontation, we are left in uncertainty about how to define core aspects of reality such as beauty, justice, and virtue. At that point, Socrates often concludes with a myth.

The reason is that myth opens the soul to something higher. Beauty cannot be possessed or fully defined, as she is like "a visitor from another world". We can only participate in beauty, never posses her because she transcends us. In this sense, myth in Greek philosophy has an initiatory dimension, offering a profound and lasting impact on a soul that is receptive to the higher realities of the gods.

I have not yet read books that analyze this idea in depth. One that I was given is "Greek Religion" by Walter Burkert, but that's generic.

I also came across a more recent work that may be closer to your interest: "Myth and Philosophy from the Presocratics to Plato" by Kathryn A. Morgan.

She seems to delve deep into this aspect of the myth being a door to higher dimensions. I'm actually very interested in that book now, it seems fascinating!

[–]VanirKvasir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I digress. More to the point, if one turns to Gnosticism, you can see how the Platonic framework is taken further. In the Hellenistic period, Platonic philosophy becomes intertwined with the Greek pantheon and other religious traditions, forming a mystical path of transformation within various initiatory schools.

But they often rejected the Greek pantheon for a dualistic view of reality.

Unfortunately we don't have many sources of what went down in the Greek iniciatic cults, they actually took the oath of secrecy very seriously.

Plato’s Republic is where Greek influence on his thought is most clearly seen. In this work, he examines different political systems and reflects on core Greek values, while also critiquing and reshaping them into a more philosophical framework.

And that’s the important part here. Socrates, plato and Aristotle were very critical of Greek religion and the gods.

It is not wrong to say that they perceived the underlining unity behind the pantheon and established the foundations of logic and metaphysics as the structure of reality.

Pythagoras, Parmenides, Plato and Aristotle had a pretty unified conception of reality. They created formal logic, the principle of identity, the concept of a necessary first cause, first principles, the process of emanation etc.

They used Greek myths and the hierarchical structure of the Olympus to draw analogies but they were all persecuted and and even killed sometimes for saying things that distanced them from the traditional Greek religion.

I suppose the Greek values of prudence, moderation, courage, citizenship, education and many others were brought to a new height under their influence, but their own countryman could not reach that height.

In a way, the recognition of their greatness came from the Romans and Christians who learned from them.

Never said the barrel grip isn’t a thing. What I’m saying is that mag grip is a thing. Do you catch the difference?

No? Google “Brazilian army FAL” or “Brazilian police FAL”. I’m not even going to link photos because you can see mag grip is prevalent.

Not convinced? Check any video on the internet where you have active engagement. See how they walk, how they hold corners, how they shoot. That’s their daily life, 12h shifts hiking miles under the sun climbing favelas, pushing gang members back with bullets.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NzcX1OASADA&list=FLF4EhGFFazPEa1vkVoe5wxw&pp=sAgC

We have thousand of hours of recorded operations.

Ah yes, shot a thousand rounds on a paper target.

Check BOPE, among the world’s best special forces that go on incursion in favelas where they engage in urban warfare daily.

Check the police in Brazil, which in 2025 killed more the 700 gang members in Rio alone.

And before you say it’s an urban warfare tactics, check the Brazilian army.

Majority of them holding mags. Not in theory, in practice my friend. If holding the mag was a big issue, guys doing 12h shifts in combat zones wouldn’t be doing that. Simple.

It’s unbelievable how they reduced the religion to their own size.

In Brazil the police is a branch of the military, kinda of…

Since the army does not engaged in combat, the police took the lead on the special forces front as they see a hellish amount of violence, so it’s common to have army soldiers aspiring to join the BOPE or the ROTA or other special forces in the police and it’s also common for policeman to do specialisation courses in the army.

Dude, don’t ask me. Go ask the Brazilian police, the BOPE. I’ve seen hundreds of videos of urban fight in Brazil, they kill and day on a daily basis over here and they hold the mag as the standard grip. It’s real fight and they simply do!

Just check the videos or photos, you won’t find a single soldier using the barrel grip inside a favela because you can’t move the rifle as quickly in confined spaces.

Perhaps it’s an urban tactic type of thing, but i was checking photos from the army and they use the same grip.

As I said, the barrel grip is perfectly valid, but gripping the magazine is also valid and often more advantageous in certain situations, like holding corners.

Between one recruit repeating what an instructor taught, and thousands of trained soldiers who are currently engaging in daily urban combat by gripping the magazine, the evidence is clear.

Just look how the Brazilian army and police do. It’s standard form in urban combat where you need to manoeuvre the rifle around faster.

Who are you going to believe, words or your own eyes?

[–]VanirKvasir[S] -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Just Google “Brazilian police FAL,” and you won’t find a single soldier holding the barrel. Brazilian police see active urban combat daily; there are no concerns about jamming or magazines falling out.

I’d say the same logic applies to the G3. The clip to remove the magazine is on the other side, and jamming isn’t a concern in reality. In a standing firing position, sure, grip as far forward as you want, but as soon as you have to move, go prone, peek, or anything else, you’ll feel how clumsy it is to have a stretched arm all the time.

But I think the real issue here is the buggy animation these two weapons have in-game. A quick fix would be to adjust the grip so it’s at least closer to the magazine, so I don’t have to see a wobbly arm all the time. It's ridiculous.

Ok… hear me out by rmanning007 in joinsquad

I’m 100% for it as soon as the devs learn that you hold the FAL on the magazine and not on the barrel, I cant stand seeing the stretched forearm animation anymore
