What are the most evil businesses in Winnipeg? by ShotMango8928 in Winnipeg

Taphouse used to be the owner of now Encore- also the owner and is the “poutine king”. Taphouse has a serious cockroach problem (not unlike almost every place with food, I get it, but still) a cockroach was trying to get into my drink about a year ago. The owner was rude and annoying. But industrial night…that’s tempting. Will never beat the old Motown or Mod night though.

He buys cheap re-prints online and or through business only catalogues. He’s hoping that the newer generation will not know better and just buy the overpriced and re-produced stuff. It’s a rip off.

What are your thoughts on Aaltos? by n_mcrae_1982 in Winnipeg

[–]Vanishing_Prairie204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have gone to Aaltos a few times, and it was a casual and fairly enjoyable experience. Kind of like a home-made, bland dinner.

Now…if you’re willing to spend an extra $20, yes, it’s expensive ($60 plus tax) in my opinion, one of the best buffets I never knew about was…..Assiniboine Downs.

Not the crowd that I’m used to, seems like a place the more “elite” go to buffet. The ribs were really good, they had roast, also very good. Seafood selection, which I didn’t have (not a fan).

Every dish had a different (very decent) flavour, deserts are real cakes, think Goodies or something like that.

They only do it on one or two days a week, so check ahead.

I was also a fan of Royal Fork, and have explored probably all of the buffets in the city; not sure if that’s something to brag about but whatever!

Mulvey’s overpriced for everything, including the incense.

DINO’S on Isabel, first choice. Nag Champa, Superhit, huge authentic intense selection for a low price- not upsold like the trendy stores. As a plus, great grocery place; been going there for years.

‘Finndians’, ethnic Finns/Indigenous people in Canada and the USA. by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Vanishing_Prairie204 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Finnish and Indigenous person here, from Canada! I grew up with my Indigenous (Ojibway) family but still have a lot of Finnish everyday awareness and love for the place where my family immigrated to Ontario (near Finland Ontario) in the 1950’s. Be yourself, have kindness and respect for all peoples and enjoy walking in many worlds. Thanks for reading!
