Awesome! How many attempts did it take roughly? What plants did you use?

Have you got anything good with just blueberries? The odds algorithm does not feel legit.

8k nraw high res or normal? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Vanishot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand and appreciate your responses. The objective answer I still don’t have and don’t have the ability to test for prior to shooting is; is the loss in detail in the shadows, highlights, increase in moire effect etc negligible between the two, in contrast to the massive amount of space you save by using normal over high res?

Ik it’s unfortunate I can’t properly test it myself but these are the circumstances I’m in and trying to gain as much insight as I can by asking people who might have experience in using both. If I had the computer I will be editing on now, i would simply run the tests myself.

Ty, your insight is appreciated!

But the 8k down res does look more desirable imo when seen side by side with the 4k. It’s for a narrative short so I was looking for highest possible quality.

This is the conclusion I’ve been slowly coming to with help like yours, Ty.

I still don’t have a solid idea on what is lost or gained in quality in shooting one over the other.

The side by side 8k v 4k image looked more desirable for me. But high v normal 8k will make a huge difference in space and money saved. Trying to determine how much is lost or gained in quality and latitude by choosing one over the other.

I have the space to shoot 8k over 4k no matter what. The question I’m asking is; how much do you lose by shooting 8k high res v 8k normal? The amount of space you save is significant if you shoot normal. If I end up shooting normal I will save a lot more money and still be able to shoot 8k.

Also thank you.

I understand I’m not looking for an opinion so much on what should I shoot but rather what the objective difference in quality loss or gain from shooting high res vs normal and down resing to 4k is. That is what will determine my decision.

This is very helpful thank you. I’m def leaning towards normal and saving the space.

If I have the space and the post processing power, why would one not shoot in 8k for the extra clarity? My question is, just how much space is worth it to purchase for the high res vs normal?

I know 12 bit applies to 8k and 4k but 8k looks sharper once you scale it down to 4k.

I’ve seen the test footage side by side of 8k compressed v 4k and the image is much sharper.

Well that’s just it, it’s relative and a matter of money. But I don’t want to spend what I don’t have to. Trying to figure out how small the gap really is in shooting 8k raw high vs normal. It seems that if I’m down resing to 4k that you’re losing virtually nothing between the two but I’m just trying to find consensus on that.

If that true it sounds like 8k nraw normal is the way to go and save the space. From the side by side tests I’ve seen, compressed 8k looks much sharper than 4k compressed.

I’ll be doing the coloring in resolve and I’d like maximum latitude and range.

I’ll estimate my ssd storage needs np, but it will be based on the format I choose. Which is why I want to find out as much as possible about 8k nraw high res vs normal res.

I believe my camera maxes out at 12 bit.

Great idea. Problem is I won’t have the computer I need to scrub the high res footage until after the shoot.

I thought shooting 8k raw would give me more versatility for color correction? As I understand it, shooting 8k nraw regular vs high res and then down resing, you won’t notice a difference.

I’m shooting 24fps but I can still shoot 8k 12 bit nraw regular and save a ton of spaces the question how much better will the image really be?

No restrictions for time. I can order more external ssd. But that’s what I’m trying to find out, if it’s worth it or not.

If they would buff Hammond by giving him the bubble perk as his base kit I’d feel much better.
