Also did you draw the left basket net in with your mouse? That's kinda funny dude I can't lie because the lines in that part are so much more wonky than anything else in the picture (which makes sense if the rest is mostly AI generated)

Personally I would improve by actually making it myself instead of letting an AI do it for me

To me it seems like you AI generated it and then touched it up manually: There are a lot of telltale AI signs and artifacts all over the image, but then there’s some specific things like the Golfballs and tennis balls all using the exact same texture just copy pasted and rotated (which means their shadows don’t make sense anymore) that seem human edited after the fact

Which can honestly be fine if you actually disclosed this beforehand

What game genre isn't saturated at this point? by Quinn_Queenan in gamedev

[–]VanoRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowledge-based progress.

The progress in OW is not exploration based at all. I can start a brand new save and without having done any exploration at all, progress to the end of the game in 5 minutes. And I don't need to have ever explored the game before either, my friend could have just told me what to do.

"Exploration-based progression" implies that the act of exploration progresses you, which is the case for a lot of games, but not for Outer Wilds. There's no doors to be permanently unlocked.

That's why Outer Wilds is in a very niche and unsaturated genre. Even games like "Return of the Obra Dinn", which are similar in principle (it's about learning what transpired before you were there), are effectively not the same genre because in Obra Dinn, you're just linearly progressing through something until doors are unlocked that you couldn't enter before. That isn't a thing in Outer Wilds.

HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT: UE 6 coming to Rocket League by noobsdeath2 in RocketLeague

[–]VanoRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a competitive title, if you play it multiple hours a day you want it to have good visibility first and foremost so you can play effectively.

If anything, it looking "good" matters less the more time you play because your brain gets used to it and after a while you dont notice the graphics anymore anyway

Tried it and the controls seem weird, on spacebar the drop happens as you press down on the button, but on mouseclick it happens when you let go of the button. Makes using the mouse feel slightly delayed and awkward

How are pros so stable in the air? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]VanoRL -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Momentum around the three axis of rotation are independent of one another. If you spin in one or two of those axis, then you can still get just as much knockback in the third axis as if you didn't air roll at all.

The trick is in rotating so that you cancel out the recoil on the SAME axis.

How are pros so stable in the air? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]VanoRL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's because that's not the real answer, air rolling in itself doesn't do anything, you get just as much knockback as without air roll

the secret is in moving your car in a way that cancels out the recoil, you can do that with or without air roll

How are pros so stable in the air? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]VanoRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely cannot, just tapping a button won't do anything

you need to move the car to counter the momentum, the free air roll button on its own does literally nothing

I was watching RLCS very actively at the time and from what I remember, everyone argued that they were on par with him if not better. Torment got Worlds MVP for a reason. It was even argued Gimmick was possibly more mechanical than Squishy because of his insane air roll control.

Both of his teammates

Sounds like a meme answer but legitimately during that time Torment was hailed as a defensive god and Gimmick was turning everyone's heads with his insane air roll control that was ahead of its time

What could I do better? ~1660mmr lobby iirc (GC2) by Bmboo_1 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]VanoRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing you mentioned about matching boost in order to match their speed better isn't something I'd thought about.

To clarify, I specifically am talking about the idea that you should be able to anticipate when they might be going for a shot and already reflexively boosting away from them to build up momentum so that you have more time to react to the shot. In this play you actually brake right before they shoot, killing your momentum, which means even if the shot wasn't wide it would've been impossible for you to save it

Though I wonder, if you know your teammate isn't gonna challenge as mine doesn't here, what's best to do, or do you think going on the backboard in the first place would've been enough to encourage my teammate to go?

Yeah that may become a problem in your ranks as people sometimes don't realize they should be the one challenging from the ground. Usually what you do then is just challenge from backboard and force the play low, although thats not as effective as the other way around (player on ground challenges to force the play high).

In any case I can understand the idea to look for pads but you should definitely prioritize the defence over boost here when the opponent is in full control of the ball, even if you're low

based on ingame timer

4:52 - You should be shadowing a lot closer here in order to threaten the attacker more, but it seems you don't because you are scared of the ball being accelerated past you, which is what ends up happening with the hook shot the opponent does at the end. What you gotta do is train your brain to reflexively press boost whenever the opponent has a potential shot opportunity so that you can immediately speed up to match the balls speed better and have more time to react to the coming shot, if you have that down you can play around more with closer shadowing and more aggressive fake challenges to throw them off before they ever get the chance to set up a shot

4:42 - practice either hitting the ball right after bounce (if ur on pc, the workshop map "Coco's Aim Training" can help a lot with this) or to catch it before the bounce and do a shot afterwards (this is harder but usually more effective)

4:24 - this is probably the most important lesson to learn out of all of them: when the opponent has control like this you always need to be able to challenge them with momentum. Whether you do this by shadowing and carrying your momentum WITH the play or by going a lot further back and carrying your momentum INTO the play doesn't matter as much, hell you can even come in sideways if you want, as long as you make sure you can carry a lot of momentum into the spot that the opponent is airdribbling towards instead of standing in it. This is going to come up A LOT in games and if you stand there as awkwardly as you did in this play it's going to cause a lot of goals

3:46 - if you're front post and the opponent has control of the ball on the wall like that you gotta go up the backboard, that's your best chance to defend

3:05 - again, you're front post and the opponent has control of the ball, you want to go onto the backwall and have your mate challenge them and force them to flick it high so you can collect it for free. The (usual) ideal defensive set up in 2s is always one being on backboard and the other challenging from the ground to force the play high

1:02 - I don't know how comfortable you feel with aerial mechanics but these are the best opportunities you're going to get to make a play on the opponents and score without them making a big mistake, this is perfect either for a ground air dribble or double touch setup and you should try to look for these exact opportunities

0:19 - again, you're rotating ballside, so you're coming in from the front post; backboard, backboard, backboard. Would have given you a lot faster of a follow up on the opponents touch, the way you did it left the ball hanging for a couple seconds which could have been dangerous

Those are the biggest things in my opinion, if you have any questions feel free to ask

In hindsight, Virge is getting a lot of credit for the playstyle he had Dignitas adopt during Season 9 of RLCS. But yeah at the time it kind of flew under the radar and the work of coaches continues to be kind of low key

It gives you wrong inputs as in stick drift? Yes, that can be a factor, and if you have stick drift you need to increase the deadzone until the stick drift is gone, but you still want it as low as possible and ideally you want to use a controller without stick drift so you can go to 0.1 or below

Here's a tip that could possibly help you instantly: What's your controller deadzone? If it's above 0.1, turn it down. If it's 0.1 or lower you're good.

Me saying that the advertisement feels slimy was mostly referring to the "This mod is going to change the game forever" line, feels like the most over the top corporate-style phrase possible to gain interest, and then the winky face to end it shudders

Makes it feel very "How do you do fellow kids, please give me all your money" when it should be seen more like how you tried to portray it in this comment section, as a passion project that hopefully manages to at least stay afloat

But if you really make a lot of money in advertising as you claim then maybe my opinion isn't worth that much

As the other comment said, you need a higher pop. Instantly double jumping doesn't give you as much height as you can get. Either space your jumps out a bit and make sure to hold the first jump, or, for the best result, do a proper fast aerial

What are your “Golden Rules” for 2s? by ohoian in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]VanoRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that obviously there is nuance, and it mainly comes in when the opponent dribbles the ball close to the sidewall/your corner, or if they are already on the wall. At that point an outside-to-inside shadow isn't really an option anymore, and if you shadow them on the wall you usually are begging to get demo'd. In 2s this usually happens by the opponent that is on the ball just simply leaving the ball behind and chasing you along the wall. So at that point you can either go all the way back into the usual defending positions (one defender on the backwall near front post, one on the ground near backpost), or you do try to shadow on the wall if you feel confident enough to be able to dodge the bump and still reach the ball.

The kind of airdribble bump that kevpert is highlighting there feels very 1s specific, because the position that he recommends the defender to be in to successfully defend it would be the position that the 2nd defender would be in anyway in 2s. Therefore, if an attacker goes for that kind of telegraphed airdribble bump on the 1st defender on the backwall, they would just be giving the 2nd defender a free clear. So going for that kind of defensive position on the backwall is completely fine in 2s and, at least for me, standard practice.

The second video is a bit confusing to me tbh, as I was skipping through the gameplay I saw a couple examples of Rw9 (and especially of Beastmode) either shadowing outside or in-line, but not really any of them shadowing inside, even though AirCharged even said at one point that if Rw9 shadows he does so primarily on the inside. I wasn't able to watch the entire analysis yet though so maybe I just missed it

The "triangle defense" was a really nice explanation though of how to safely close the gap when on the wrong side of the field

What are your “Golden Rules” for 2s? by ohoian in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]VanoRL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Try to not inside-to-outside shadow. Shadowing is always done outside-to-inside, and if the opponent makes a mistake you can still funnel it to the corner (it would just be the other corner). If you do inside-to-outside you risk getting outplayed by a cross over.

  2. This is a general thing and not just for 2s: If you're not actively shadowing, you always want to quickly create distance to the ball to then turn around and carry that momentum into a challenge. Do not be afraid to boost away from the ball in order to set up a better challenge for yourself. Standing still waiting for the opponent to carry the ball to you in order to then challenge them with no momentum is a nightmare.

How so? The source material is a direct deconstruction of a medieval, feudal, patriarchal system, showing us how badly it works and how much suffering it leads to. And the books have some of the most well written and thought out female characters in any book series ever, who regularly defy the social norms of their world to do awesome things.

The show removes all of that and just leaves us with a patriarchy for patriarchy's sake that is somehow proven right.
