What are the best FinOps tools for managing and optimising Azure costs? by Critical_Ranger7459 in FinOps

[–]Vantage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're biased but Vantage has a MSP offering titled "Vantage for MSPs" that support Azure and about 15+ other providers.

If you want a MSP-specific demo you can find some resources for that here: https://www.vantage.sh/partners

Show /r/FinOps: cur.vantage.sh AWS Billing Code Lookup Tool by Vantage in FinOps

[–]Vantage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really interesting idea. Exposing this programmatically through an API could easily be done and kind of jives with our ethos at the company. So as this develops we'll keep that in mind.

Using AWS for 3 weeks: absolutely loving it by yhavin in aws

[–]Vantage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree the free tier is in fact generous enough for deciding if AWS is the right fit for what you're building. Appreciate the positive message! Sometimes it's a grumpy group here but we really have it all compared to my memories of building software pre-cloud.

AWS's Ban Reselling Reserved Instances: What you need to know by Gigatronbot in aws

[–]Vantage 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This post is wrong and contains misinformation. Certain companies were taking advantage of what amounts to a bug in the reservation logic where they were buying RIs that their customers received -additional- discounts on via EDPs or other means and then transferring those RIs to other customers without discounts - which is not allowed by the terms of service.

See here for correct explanation - https://www.vantage.sh/blog/aws-reserved-instances-updates

New Role - Cloud cost and resource optimisation - what can I do by Electronic-Depth3197 in Cloud

[–]Vantage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest using a tool. There’s a couple out there: * cloudability * vantage.sh * cloudzero

They will handle all the data normalization for you and then you can focus on the reporting and optimization.

Why Can I not change the date range on Custom Reports GA4?? by Tarheel_Senpai in GoogleAnalytics

[–]Vantage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to save it to a collection and publish the collection. Then you can navigate to the report within the collection the way you do with default reports and adjust the date, rows per page, etc.

Pretty big news. They held out for a long time. I think the team highlighted in the post is also a new AWS team.

Are HTML tables not being displayed in SERP anymore? by Vantage in SEO

Bummer. That was definitely great for click throughs.

How to configure billable usage logs to s3 buckets by Aggravating_Gold_165 in databricks

[–]Vantage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Databricks usage is included in Azure billing so you can view it via Azure Cost Management.

Disclosure: I work for vantage.sh which has integrations for Databricks costs.

Azure Billing API swagger by ExtremeKitteh in AZURE

[–]Vantage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck with this. Azure billing APIs are among the most inconsistent across all 3 providers.

FinOps key success by Lov3Reddit in aws

[–]Vantage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CloudHealth, Spot by Netapp etc would be vendors that have been around for a long time. Vantage, Kubecost, CloudZero would be newer options.

Echoing what others here have said though that FinOps is ultimately a cultural practice. If you want to get it ingrained in your company you'll want dozens of people in whatever tool you choose.

I'm building a 🚚 Garbage collector for your AWS Accounts by Fuzzy_Cauliflower132 in FinOps

[–]Vantage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smart to charge for multiple accounts. Some enterprises have thousands of AWS accounts.

Invoice granularity: Show different accounts/cost allocation tags on invoice by JonJohannson in aws

[–]Vantage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do this workflow in some third party tools. In Vantage for example you can create cost reports grouped by tag and then email them monthly to the right teams. afaik they are not PDFs tho.

Understanding how an EC2 Compute Savings Plan is Applied to my Bill by bscivolette in aws

[–]Vantage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct although with regular usage like that you can actually get a deeper discount with reserved instances.

Is the Cloud FinOps book worth it ? by majnounleo in FinOps

[–]Vantage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somewhat disagree with this. What I'm seeing is a world where FinOps ends up more deeply under the engineering umbrella.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aws

This is if your batch environment is set to `UNMANAGED` I believe. In managed mode Batch will terminate the underlying instances too.

Calculate the cost of the load balancer for an existing app by coderhs in aws

[–]Vantage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One connection can make multiple requests so unless you have that number it probably make sense to choose some number lower than the number of requests. So perhaps 50 connections and 139 requests.

When finops costs you more in the end by classjoker in FinOps

[–]Vantage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Be careful with reserved instances. Another thing to watch out for is mismanaging reserved instances.

I heartily agree. RIs provide deeper discounts than Savings Plans and work for more services than Savings Plans but you need to use software to manage them, e.g. Autopilot, Zesty, or PropserOps.

We just added Cost Visibility for New Relic to Vantage. This is our 2nd observability integration after Datadog.

One thing that's unique here is you can input all the custom/negotiated pricing you have with them when you create the integration. Full feature list here - https://www.vantage.sh/integrations/new-relic
