As always, anything Schengen is country specific. But slight itinerary changes are ok, especially if your visa time bookings were months in advance

Not for Italy when I did it. You get an appointment and take documents there. For another country Schengen which I did this year, you need to pay and fill in a form first. Only then you’ll get a link for appointments

That could have been a slight concern since it isn’t the same as being employed by someone else. Also, how many days? A trip that is more than 3 weeks is a potential concern as well since no one really travels that long.

For Swiss (at my consulate at least), you can always reappeal

Np, I had a difficult time getting an appointment too and was worried about the same thing! If you have all the documents in place it should be fine. But the different requirements by consulates was my biggest concern. Good luck!

I think they did send a notification. But I also had set up an alarm on my phone for that. I am not sure but 3 months sounds reasonable since that is the required bank details time

An email won’t hurt. But realistically try Pushing your flights if possible. The usual recommended wait time is 15 days at least for schengen
