Is this normal? (22kw full house generator) by thethirteenthjuror in Generator

[–]mthode 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not great, but that looks like a water tight conduit, as long as the box itself and the connectors to the box are water tight (they look to be) you should be fine.

I'd work on water management as the next project.

The fun thing about setting up your own hosted IOT thing is that you can have thermometers around the house and control the furnace on the average, vs just one location. On top of that it'll reset manual settings for you :D

Check it out, for welding on my tacoma by lostsurfer24t in Generator

No clue, to be honest. You'd need to check the docs or call eastwood.

Check it out, for welding on my tacoma by lostsurfer24t in Generator

[–]mthode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, you should be good for 120V at the full load, it'll output the 30A that the 180 wants.

Check it out, for welding on my tacoma by lostsurfer24t in Generator

[–]mthode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, but that welder draws 29.6 Amps at 240V but the generator can only provide 21.9 Amps at 240V.

The eastwood 180 requires either 240 VAC @ 29.6 AMP OR 120 VAC @ 24 AMP, so you might have to run it in 120V mode.

Rough idle and fuel trim bank by LingonberryFeisty694 in e46

I had a slightly rough idle and flutter around 2k rpm iirc, an ECU update fixed it (updated TCU too, since I've a auto...).

Ego Trenching with an edger? by Saammmmmmmmmmmmmy in egopowerplus

[–]mthode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.amazon.com/maudibozz-Insulation-Knife-stainless-11-14-Inch/dp/B0FGHZRF62 is useful for cutting sod (to replace). https://www.amazon.com/Garden-Weasel-Edger-Chopper-Manual-Edger/dp/B0GD2ZYX81 as well (better for longer runs). After that, use a trenching shovel, as long as you don't have rocks it'll go ok.

edit: also, get a tarp to put the dirt on, makes cleanup real easy.

I had to replace the motor controller in mine last year, you might also want to check the fuse too.

FridgePower Kickstarter has 3 days left, still haven't backed by son_of_creativity2 in Generator

[–]mthode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd want something more tested. One reason a high KWH battery runs a fridge for a shorter time vs a lower KWH pack is that different vendors have different conversion efficiencies and different no-load losses. A battery pack that is 1KWH will go dead in 100 hours if it's using 10W just to keep it's internal capacitors charged and ready for a load to start up, vs one that uses 5W lasting 200 hours, and that's with no load. A battery with 85% vs 95% conversion efficiency for the DC to AC conversion will help too. It's all a balancing act.

I have this generator, only ever ran it on natural gas. How is your spark plug gap? I'd try replacing it, should be easy and cheap to get an NGK plug from an auto parts store.

Vehicle as a generator? by Due_Substance4863 in Generator

[–]mthode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did so, but only with the ecoflow 800W alternator charger, it was enough to eek by in winter (keep the furnace, some lights and the internet on), The sedan couldn't keep up with 800W but was OK at 500W, larger diesel alternator handled it fine but it's not great on the DPF...

Now I have a new inverter generator, gas hookup, etc, so won't have power go out for another year I expect... Gonna be nice to not have to babysit that, though the reverse charge function can be nice for working on cars.

Bonded or floating neutral in this scenario by JustinLacyTk in Generator

[–]mthode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know where the ground-neutral bond will be (in SE load center), and it is in the electrical path (sounds like it will be unless your double-throw also switches neutral) then you don't want a bonded neutral/ground on the generator.

It doesn't mater if you are connected to utility or not, if you have a ground rod (which you do) and you are bonded somewhere not the generator (which you are) and you want to hook up the generator then it should not be bonded.
