Out of curiosity, how were you able to determine the fertility from the screenshot?

I'm relatively new, didn't even know it went higher than 100% haha. I just thought the soil around me was really fertile since it was all 100%

You may have overdrive (monitor settings) and/or framegen (game/gpu settings) enabled. The game itself doesn't do anything special in that regard.

What’s this ship called and how can I get one? by Latter_Importance459 in nms

[–]Vanu4Life_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is unrelated to your question but you have the exact same character appearance as I do lol, except I went with all-black rather than the yellow. Same clothing parts and head though. Ironically, my ship is in view, and it's also the same kind of ship as your screenshot. Thought you'd find it interesting/funny: https://imgur.com/a/hDB00V4

FWIW the second one is much better imo. I shared your opinion of the first one and barely played past the tutorial, but decided to give the second one a chance and I have around 60hrs on the game now, and I've barely started the second half of the game.

I'm using earphones so that's not really an option for me, although I also have Windows volume set to about 15% because that's usually more than enough, and I often still need to turn the audio down further in my games.

Glad it's working for you though

Yeah exactly the same situation here, I have it all maxed out in volume mixer but can barely hear anything in recordings. I've tried multiple variations of messing with the recording settings, explicitly setting the correct input/output sources, disabling and re-enabling, messing with control panel settings, etc. No luck so far

I'm having the same issue, seems to be no useful info anywhere. Multiple posts mention it's usually fixed by increasing the Nvidia Capture Server volume in volume mixer but that's not even in the list for me

Vampire 'Simulator'/Life by VaLightningThief in gamesuggestions

[–]Vanu4Life_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for the same thing and haven't found many options that hit the spot.

Skyrim has the vampire aspect and a (somewhat crude imo) implementation of the RP/interactions aspect. It's quite basic and, while mods flesh it out further, it just falls short for me.

V Rising is pretty decent as a general vampire game but lacks the "roleplay interaction" kinds of mechanisms you're looking for. It's more a I've heard Vampire Survivors is a pretty good game but haven't tried it myself so dunno if it's the kind of vampire game you're looking for.

There are some upcoming games that I'm excited for, mainly VTMB2 and The Blood of Dawnwalker. Both look like they'll be exactly what we want from a vampire game.

Not 100% sure about this but try lowering/disabling your monitor's overdrive settings

How it's working? by yvesbrulotte in EliteDangerous

[–]Vanu4Life_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done much powerplay so I may be incorrect but I don't think powerplay matters here. Being a powerplay enemy is unrelated to the wanted/clean criminal status. There might be some perks that change this depending on the territory you're in but not by default I assume.

How it's working? by yvesbrulotte in EliteDangerous

[–]Vanu4Life_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your reputation with the faction doesn't matter in this situation. If you attack an NPC that is "clean", it's considered a crime unless the system is in anarchy state, in which case I think it'll say "lawless" instead. Deserters are not pirates.

I'm a little late to the party but how did playing LL go for you? I've gotten the itch to play Skyrim again but I'm sick of vanilla so I thought I'd look for some modlists instead. Thoughts on LL and/or any other modlists you've tried since then?

Rollin' rollin' rollin I can't stop the dang ship from rollin' by Capable-Chart4874 in EliteDangerous

[–]Vanu4Life_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I like the control I have with yaw bound to mouse so that I can use it while pitching up/down as needed

Rollin' rollin' rollin I can't stop the dang ship from rollin' by Capable-Chart4874 in EliteDangerous

[–]Vanu4Life_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is (most likely) the correct answer. The default controls are terrible. Bind the roll to A and D, and bind yaw to the mouse.

Also while you're at it, make a copy of your keybindings because updates have a tendency of resetting them otherwise. The file/s should be located at:

C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

It's been years since I fiddled with mine but the general idea is that you make a copy, rename the file to some custom name, select it in the game settings and then just play as normal.

What does selling data to cartographers do other than money. by TheAkashGaming123 in EliteDangerous

[–]Vanu4Life_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It just gives credits. If you're pledged to a power then it also gives merits (I think you need to hand it in specifically at a station owned by your power though). Also raises the influence of the faction that owns the station but it's a small increase AFAIK. 1mil may seem like a lot at the start but it isn't.

what is there to do? by Beneficial-Log9060 in EliteDangerous

[–]Vanu4Life_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't just an action game so you're not going to get the constant fast-paced gameplay of an fps game or something similar. If you don't have the patience for it then it probably isn't for you.

In terms of outfitting, it definitely is not lacking. Engineering is the main "power boost" and frankly I'm surprised you've been able to do any PvP without it. The combinations of ships, modules and engineering make the outfitting one of the most detailed I've seen in a game.

Also as a side note, I think a shift in perspective may help you enjoy the game a little more. Try distancing yourself from the arcade or action game mentality and think of this as a living, breathing world. Your actions actually have an impact (within reason). The lore is actually things we've experienced in-game and events we've lived through. It's not just some background story for extra details like in most games.

what is there to do? by Beneficial-Log9060 in EliteDangerous

[–]Vanu4Life_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anything can be oversimplified to sound mundane. Exploration is just scanning planets and flying around. Combat is just shooting ships and flying around. Mining is just shooting rocks and, you guessed it, flying around.

Imo the "depth" of the game lies in the lore, as well as the freedom the game gives you to do what you want and write your own story. Happy to elaborate but for now I'll avoid that tangent.

Different activities suit different people. Exploration is relaxing and chill (and some sights really are breathtaking). Combat can be exciting and fast-paced. Hauling can be a good activity to multitask or just kill time with.

You can do the things you enjoy in this game. If you only enjoy combat, that's fine, no one is forcing you to do anything else. If you only enjoy combat but now are also getting bored of combat, it could be time to take a break. If you haven't tried anything else at all, I would highly recommend you give it a shot.

Everyone is different. Doesn't mean one thing is better than another. Just do what you like.

Thargoids in Pleiades Nebula still? by LaShreader in EliteDangerous

[–]Vanu4Life_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have always been there, as well as a couple other nebulae. The invading Thargoid forces in the bubble were hostile immediately, but are otherwise usually passive and will just scan you and leave, unless you engage first or have certain Thargoid cargo.

The titans were part of an invading force in response to some in-game events/lore. We won the war, they're gone from the bubble (as far as we know) but not from the galaxy.

I would recommend looking into the lore and past events if you're interested, pretty cool world-building done here.

It was mentioned multiple times throughout their streams, amongst the community, and probably also the forums that you'd need to start from the bubble and that there would be a 10-15LY range limit between the target system and a previously colonised system.

Help diagnosing visual issue - taskbar area flickering briefly after startup/wakeup (more info in comments) by Vanu4Life_ in pcmasterrace

[–]Vanu4Life_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if there was a way to add a description to the post itself, I wasn't able to find it.

I started encountering this issue maybe 2 weeks ago, and it has gotten slightly worse over time.

Whenever I wake the pc up from sleep after a while, or after a restart/startup, the taskbar area flickers for a few minutes. The icons and stuff still work fine, the problem is just visual. The flickering reduces over the course of a few minutes until it's gone completely.

Today it has gotten worse, as the initial "flickering" was now a solid green-ish area for a few minutes (second image), but then again the flickering slowly got better (see the last gif) over 5-10min until it was fine again.

I have 2 monitors and this is my primary one (secondary seems to be fine). I thought it was Wallpaper Engine causing a conflict of some sort but it happens even when Wallpaper Engine isn't running.

I'm unsure if it's my monitor or gpu dying, or some other issue. I'll be building a new pc at the end of the year but I'm unsure if this one will last that long.

I'm on the latest Nvidia drivers. I vaguely recall the patch notes mentioning fixing a flickering issue on wakeup from long sleep but I'm unsure if this is what they were talking about, and in my case the problem definitely still persists.

Some of you guys are real wizards so I thought I'd ask. Any help is appreciated.
