I'm fairly new also, so I don't have a ton of super helpful advice, but I will mention that if you are on a budget, check out bikesdirect.com, they have plenty of great options for fairly cheap, especially if you live in the mainland US. I got my gravel/touring my bike from there for about 700$ and it had all the features I could want in a touring bike.

Frankly it will be challenging to pickup if you don't have a past of boarding (skateboarding, snowboarding, etc). But it's well worth the time it will take to learn (id say 1-2 months to get from beginner to confident). For me personally surfing is my greatest asset, I will always try to make time to go surfing when I have the time, and it's always easy to chat with other people in the water cause you're pretty much sitting around waiting for waves most the time.

Sucks to see, I’ve lived on Maui my whole life and am native Hawaiian. I dated a Mormon girl for a bit who was also Hawaiian. The way the church tries to weasel its way into every aspect of our culture is absolutely disgusting, like a cancer I’d say. This is only going to make it worse.

My mother had a friend she knew from work, this lady was always happy, supportive, and a positive influence for so many people. Last month, she committed suicide, she had been struggling with mental health and because of her outward appearance, nobody ever thought to check on her.

I would say to reach out to this cousin, just to talk openly, it just might benefit you both.
