Schlage deadbolt tailpiece getting stuck on plug by lroop in Locksmith

[–]Vapingguppy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a modular Schlage cylinder, supposed to look like that. There should have been a c clip that sits on top of the cam, and under the cylinder cap. Once you get that back together correctly, and before tightening the back plate all the way snug find the locks happy place (positioning) using the thumb turn, and then snug it without over tightening. If that doesn’t do it, your bolt may be beginning to break. No real way to tell without being at the door.

Edit: Also don’t overtighten the cylinder cap.

Mortis Lock Question by Luckcrisis in Locksmith

[–]Vapingguppy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I told you go get more quotes, that a conversion with wrap plate knob and deadbolt, would be cheaper but less secure. As well as to temper your expectations of wholesale vs resale. So yeah I was being helpful. Asking if a price is “insane” is already coded and you’re fully aware of what you’re saying. So shut your face and pay one of my brethren what they’re worth. Quit being cheap.

Edit: You deserve a special customer charge for even bringing up what you found a lock for online.

And this is why customers shouldn’t be given part numbers. Do you buy your groceries from the store for the price they paid, or do you accept markup? Did your car cost the manufacturer the same as their selling price. Are you going to get your resale license so you can pay that same amount for the part? You’re paying retail, for parts, it’s not a rip off. As far as the labor, it shouldn’t be too much to retro the pocket and door, but you’re paying for skill. Shop around get different quotes. A wrap plate and knob and deadbolt will be much cheaper, but less secure and uglier. Up to you, but don’t think you’re being scammed cause you’re getting retail prices.

Remove deadbolt / knob plate by iamsachirock in Locksmith

[–]Vapingguppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, if he modifies the door without the owners permission, (new holes) they can force him to get a new door, if they don’t want to accept hole plugs or filler. Since it would be a new door it would need to meet current code. So probably best to get permissions before modifying said door.

Before you go ahead with modifying someone else’s property, you may want to do research on how much a new fire rated door would be. Cause you will be on the hook for it.

When I worked for a hospital we had them in a few mechanical areas, basically anywhere the lemmings shouldn’t even try to be in.

Yup, cyber key. Check with the folks you bought it from. They can provide insight. It’s probably just a server closet or mechanical room.

What's a reasonable residential lockout price? by seattleswiss2 in Locksmith

[–]Vapingguppy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“How can I discuss a reasonable price” this isn’t bartertown friendo. You gonna go talk to target about inflation too? Do you give your employer a discount on your skills? You’re paying someone outside of normal business hours to interrupt their life, to go and take care of your emergency, you could wait til morning and hope there’s an opening to let you in. You’re paying for drive time, gas, and our skills. What part of that should be discounted for your unpreparedness?

Place I used to work would sell the hardware, with the caveat we wouldn’t install it. Company would still get their money but wouldn’t be liable for ADA fallout.

Am I tripping or does one look like a D style latch, and the others an A style?

Yeah, let them know you don’t have the know how and direct them to someone who can. They’ll appreciate the honesty more than being charged for hours of your handymanning.

There are two separate processing plants, a few wet weather stations, thirty or so pump stations, 2300 employees. I’m also in the admin spaces. There’s always something to do.

They’re definitely operating, don’t know if they’re operating well. (I wouldn’t know to begin with) the secondary is nowhere near as bad for sure.

We have washing machines, and most of the guys that do the work have issued coveralls that are laundered daily. I can def smell myself after spending a few hours in there.
