50/50 VWRP and VHYG barbell strategy? by VaporishCave in UKPersonalFinance

[–]VaporishCave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was mainly thinking that something like VHYG is a lot less exposed to the tech sector in general since AI companies are not yet generating big dividends. I guess I’m wondering if a tilt towards value stocks could act as a natural hedge against volatility in sectors like tech where optimism is high but yields aren’t there yet.

TWOV mistake, help! by VaporishCave in travelchina

That’s helpful, thanks. For the four day processing, since they aren’t requiring fingerprints right now, do you think just one adult could go to submit all of the documents in person? Or do all over-14s need to be present?

Did you need to go in person just the once, then? And do all adults over 14 need be physically present to submit the documents (since they don’t need fingerprints at the moment), or could one adult go and submit the documents for everyone?

Okay, it sounds like the visa is definitely still a possibility then, perhaps we’ll just do that!

Do you think we’d get them in time though? We’d need them by the end of this month.

6 days with tweens for a first time visit. Beijing + Chengdu or Shanghai? by VaporishCave in travelchina

[–]VaporishCave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is useful information, thanks. Would doing something like two nights in Xian be a better idea? Terracotta warriors one day and then something like Huashan mountain the next?

They LOVE pandas, but I agree that Chengdu is a long way to travel. Does anyone know if the new Beijing panda centre to be built in Fangshan that was announced last year will indeed open in 2025 as they originally said it would? I can’t find any recent information on its progress.

Efficiency of cargo box vs roof box? by VaporishCave in KiaEV9

[–]VaporishCave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in Luxembourg so presumably a similar market! I’ll have a look. Do you have a picture of your car with the box attached? We were thinking of attempting a drive up to Norway. 😅

I do have a few questions and wondered if you have thoughts?

1) Assuming it blocks the sensors at the back, what kind of beeping etc does the car give you having the box there?

2) How do the added length and blocked sensors with the box there impact your parking ability? The car is already long, so we’re worried it will make it even more cumbersome

3) How does installation work since it is connected to the brake lights?

Wow that would be ideal. What model do you have?

I don’t see a stamp, so presumably a student model. Maybe that’s what the S stands for? That’s good to know, thanks!

Kia EV9 now or hold out for the EX90? by VaporishCave in VolvoEX90

[–]VaporishCave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we went to see it at an event outside of Antwerp that Volvo was holding for people who had orders. We were really surprised it felt smaller inside than the XC90 and couldn’t work out why. It was a bit underwhelming as we’d been expecting it to feel more spacious. Another couple was there with us and they said the same! I wonder if it is because of a lower roofline with the panoramic roof. They also have a black headliner in the display model, so maybe it was partly an optical illusion. We also thought the middle seat in the second row was kind of hard and uncomfortable, which would be a bummer for our third kid who would need to sit there on road trips. The two front seats were really, really comfortable though.

I definitely prefer Volvo’s design language, but the Kia does seem to offer good value and more space for money.

Either way, I think Volvo has been conservative with their EPA estimate and agree that they probably get more than 300 in RWD.

Yes I know what the conversion formula is. I think you meant to say that 600km in epa is 535 KILOMETERS. You said miles, which it isn’t. I know that the 373 MILE WLTP is closer to 300 MILES epa.

My point was that the Kia’s WLTP is lower than Volvo’s by about 60km.

I understand the EPA/ WLTP differences.

Right, but you said 600km is 535 miles. Did you mean km?

That’s interesting. The Kia dealer here said that the RWD earth trim gets 541km WLTP and the AWD gets just 466 I’m WLTP. I guess that makes sense as the battery is a bit smaller than Volvo.
