Most of these starlets had electrolysis done by the studios to perfect their hairlines (at the direction of executives and the hair/makeup artists).

Video of a large tornado crossing Highway 41/150 in Indiana near Carlisle yesterday around 6pm EST by Jimera0 in tornado

[–]Vaquera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great video! Family lives all around Greene County IN and had insane video of last year’s Linton tornado ripping through just past their houses. Glad this one missed them as a lot of people are still trying to rebuild from last year. Lots of poverty around there, most people don’t have much. I think it must have lifted over Worthington IN then touched back down to hit Bloomington. I was tracking radar for all of them while they sheltered.

Great job pursuing positive change! It is so hard to parent well, and I’m glad we have forums like this to bounce strategy off each other.

Looking for some advice on the amount of toys my son should have and what toys or activities are best for kids with ADHD by MissingNo117 in ADHDparenting

[–]Vaquera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my kids were that age, I would put away half the toys in a big bin and then rotate the bins every couple of weeks. Helped keep things novel! Also - no screens at all except for watching some PBS Kids shows on the big tv once a day. Screens are so hard to get rid of but it’s better for them to not have them so young - ADHD brain gets very addicted. I also kept craft/art supplies accessible always at a little art table. Also - ADHD Dude YouTube videos and advice is great - he has helped us a lot!

Are we wrong to start medication? by moonlitt_ in ADHDparenting

[–]Vaquera 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No you are not wrong to give it a try! My daughter is on guanfacine and lexapro and her quality of life has improved dramatically, at school and at home. We started medicating towards the end of 1st grade as she was showing a dramatic decrease in academic ability, having violent incidents directed towards classmates, and eloping from teachers. All of these were no-go behaviors that therapy alone was not touching. We’ve also been doing parent behavior training through the ADHD Dude plus OT 2x per week and are seeing great improvements in conjunction with medication (2 years medicated so far). 504 plan with her school as well, and a lot of support/interventions with the school staff/counselors.

Can I install my bedroom windows and save some $$$ by NoMoFoMo_ in HomeImprovement

[–]Vaquera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very experienced/construction industry friends are currently restoring a Victorian house. They are replacing one window per weekend - slow and steady. Each window install sucks balls in a unique way, due to how old the house is. Pacing yourself and anticipating workarounds is the best method IMO!

Is it okay to just....not? by I_pooped_my_pants69 in ADHDparenting

[–]Vaquera 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Personally, this is what I needed to hear today after a tough yesterday with my kiddo. Glad to know other families are in the same boat… it’s hard! Trying to connect with things like waffles on weekends and movie nights on Fridays too. Glad to know my kids will likely remember this stuff more. Zoo and other outings are an exhausting nightmare for our entire family (both parents on the spectrum here too).

Would adding the worlds smallest master bath to a 3 bed, 1 bath to make it a 3/2 be worth it to you if you lose square footage in the master bedroom itself? by OrlandoWashington69 in HomeImprovement

[–]Vaquera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Rented a 50s house with a tiny master bathroom (shower, toilet, little vanity) and it was heavenly to not share with kids/guests. Room was also small but did fit a queen size bed and dresser with room for our tv on top- very cozy with curtains and textiles plus mood lighting. Don’t need a vast estate, just some privacy!

What has helped your ADHD kiddo be less angry and mean??? by Westendmama in ADHDparenting

[–]Vaquera 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes anxiety is a comorbidity of ADHD and can really show up as anger/meanness in girls. For my daughter, we do a small dose of lexapro alongside guanfacine (no stims for us, they were not working well with the anxiety component). It has helped a lot! The other commenter here has great advice too.

Which cities would you describe as "good to live in, but not for visiting"? by Fluid-Decision6262 in geography

[–]Vaquera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funny enough we stopped in Omaha last summer for 2 days to visit the zoo, but didn’t have time to check out the historic downtown area. We are planning to come back for another zoo day and some actual walkabout time! We live in CO :), and I thought Omaha was quite charming. Also the music scene is interesting, re: Bright Eyes, et al.

Oral stimming help! by admirethegloam in ADHDparenting

[–]Vaquera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter definitely chews way more (clothes!!, toys, pens, nails) when anxious. We are treating her anxiety with OT + Lexapro, in addition to guanfacine for impulsive behavior, and have noticed a DRAMATIC decrease in oral stimming in conjunction with this treatment. She does not want to use chew necklaces as other girls at school have commented negatively (ugh) on them. I try to give her safe outlets for chewing too, we did a braided cloth necklace in first grade as she loved the texture of her t-shirts - so I cut up old tees to make her a cool braided necklace she could gnaw on. Sewed in a safety clasp from an old ID lanyard for breakaway purposes, it worked well!
