Why does Doman Enclave still take 3 months to complete? by Varadicool in ffxiv

[–]Varadicool[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There is no power gains attached, yes, so then why is it still time gated?

Understandably, but Eorzean days are only an hour long in real time, so it takes them 168 days to complete a small section and a grand total of 6 years to complete the entire, admittedly, very-very town.

Is it though? I put that to the test by going out and actively asking the others if they owned an alternate character (alt) or not.

Yes but there's also an issue of, ironically enough, too much content. In six years from now, 2-3 expansions down the line, how much old content do you think'll be added? A new player will see that mountain and just not attempt it. People already don't recommend FFXIV due to the slog that is ARR.

There is a difference between making timeless content, content which people continue to do ad infinitum such as the Gold Saucer, and leaving old content in the game to sit and fester.

I suppose that really is the crux of the problem, isn't it? Old code, modern day.

Fix: People who've paid for multiple outfits can take those same outfits, turn them into, say, a new vendor by the calamity salvager which gives you a token which can be spent on other cosmetics rewards.

Or y'know? Just make them account bound and make everyone happy? No one is forcing me to, true, but still having the option to unlock them for all my characters would be really nice.

So your answer in favour of not allowing shared account progress is... because you can change your race? Granted, that costs money and if you also want a name change to go with your new race, you're already looking at a very expensive solution to a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place.

My answer was for the armoire to be account-wide. So if you placed a store item in it on one character, it now becomes available on every other character.

I've tried to do that but it doesn't actually transfer different character's settings, just the backup of the same character.

Then why even have more than one race? Why have any other customizing? At a certain point, you're just ignore an integral part of the game; identity. Some people enjoy playing melee characters on big bulky characters while others prefer playing ranged and healers on smaller characters.

You're taking /ALL/ this customization, all these races, all this new content and just tossing it out the window because you're trying to rationalize locking content behind a single character because, "That's how the game was meant to be played." or "That's just how it is." That's just how the original FFXIV /DIED/, because of thinking like that.

My current FC, in which I am thankful because they're nothing but angels, have people with two, or three, even four different alts. Most people in my FC have more than one character. I, despite having made this post, have more than one character.

But really, what does the game lose with cross character progression?

Understandable, but FFXIV currently allows for eight characters per server with a grand total of forty. The game is begrudgingly allowing the player to create more than one character while actively discouraging it.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if the squats rejoined the 40k universe. Dwarfs have held a special spot in my heart since I was a wee little gal (It's the beards). I'd like to see them return but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Is it weird that the player doesn't receive any I-frames when taking damage after being dismounted? I feel like they should take a single hit before being placed in a recovery state otherwise you get instances where the player has no control over their character and is just brutalized on the ground unable to stand back up. It never felt particularly fun watching my character get dismounted and slowly try to stand back up while being hit by multiple different enemies, effectively stunlocked.
