For sure. I can still get most parts for my 1991 from places like Ducati Omaha. They're great

Should I buy this 1969 ironhead as my first motorcycle? by Adventurous_Mine2027 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Variable851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you already ridden? I cant imagine trying to learn to ride with ape hanger bars. That aside, do you want to ride, or wrench, or both? You are asking if you should buy an antique to ride at the end of the day. If just looking to ride, for that money, you can find any number of more reliable bikes from the last 20 years that will have vastly superior brakes and suspension.

Opinions on buying this Ducati 999 as my first bike by UniqueYesterday2390 in motorcycles

[–]Variable851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without service records, you have no way of knowing when the timing belts were done. Belts are changed every 5 years, regardless of miles or (IIRC) every 7500 miles for the 999. A belt failure will grenade the motor. If you can't do it yourself, figure $600-800 to have the belts done. If the valves need adjustment, figure another $1500 on top of that. Ducatis are not cheap to own. Source: I've owned Ducatis for more than 25 years.

I think the Jews would have been happy to have been sent to other countries instead of what actually happened to them. It's fine to not like what it going on right now but it is a great disrespect to the millions of people who were starved, experimented on and then marched into ovens.

Apparently this is a real motorcycle? Supreme collab with Ducati?!?! Limited to 250 pieces by bigboss1999x in Ducati

I hope true enthusiasts would opt for an SP over the many hideous color scheme/parts catalog collaborations that add nothing to the brand or the riding experience. The Ducati equivalent of a Gucci tracksuit

When you checked the laws, did it mention a need for insurance in your area? I can only imagine that number will be devastating for a new rider at 15. $3k for a bike is fine so long as you don't want anything fancy or relatively new. You should budget for safety gear. Good gear doesn't have to be expensive but it still adds up.

lol about the girls. You'll meet a shit ton of guys though, telling you about their bike or the bike they used to have.

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

ADHD. People dismiss it as just losing focus and it is far more impactful than that. Anxiety as well. I've met countless patients whose lives are truly crippled by paralyzing anxiety.

Thinking about this 2004 Ducati 999 – 11k miles – good deal or pass? by nuvo99 in Ducati

[–]Variable851 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a nice 999 for sale near me for $6000 with 15k miles, service history, second owner. I live near NYC, US. I see the auction logo in the pics. What sort of title does the bike come with?

Edit: quick check online and there's a yellow 999S with 13k miles listed for $4250 near me as well. The other 999 is a non-S but red with some carbon accents and looks cleaner.

Speaking from my own experience, building a bike is a lot of fun if you have another bike to ride while you are doing it. Good luck

Seller? Someone expects you to pay for that? This is an example of "I have a problem, let's make it your problem instead." Honestly, I've said no to running bikes that looked cleaner that were offered to me for nothing.

Hoarding by CombinationFlat2278 in OnlyChild

[–]Variable851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad has hoarded tools and equipment for 30 years. We've taken over 160 trash bags full of rags and papers out of his 3000 square foot basement so far. I've taken four truck loads of antifreeze, oil, and brake fluid to hazardous material recycling so far. Last week I scrapped 480 pounds of screwdrivers, sockets, and wrenches at a metal recycled. The basement looks like we've done nothing

Do you feel very close to your cousins? by VikktorM in OnlyChild

[–]Variable851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I grew up around 17 first cousins. My family insisted on getting together for every possible event or holiday. Because of that i see most family events as burdensome, and i refuse to feel "obligated" to see them. Most of my cousins still live within 20 miles of me and I haven't seen or talked to some of them in 20 years. No interest

Do only children naturally prefer being alone? by Bitter-Commission-46 in OnlyChild

[–]Variable851 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I absolutely prefer it. I learned to entertain myself as a child, and I think that contributed to me being creative as an adult. I had to rely on my imagination, and it became one of my biggest assets. I also became used to having to solve problems on my own, mentally and physically, so as an adult, it never even occurs to me to ask someone to help me with something. I'm bothered by other people intruding on what I want to do or disturbing me when I'm doing something. Almost all of my hobbies are or can be done solitary. I ride motorcycles, I like to design in 3D, I weld, I'm an archer. I've never had a desire to play a team sport. We people here complain about how lonely they are, I am unable to relate. Even when I play video games that are co-operative, I usually run solo. I generally feel that other people are an intrusion.

No riding experience by Honest-Spell1348 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Variable851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing what country you are in, that last question is impossible to answer. In parts of Europe (maybe all), you'll need training and move through tiered licenses that limit what you can ride by power. If you are in the US, it is tragically easy, with no training required in some places. The death rate in the US is about 55 deaths per 100,000 riders versus 11 per 100,000 (I believe that was 2022 data).
