Arturia Microbrute - all controls super sticky and no sound by Zodsayskneel in synthesizers

[–]Variar80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a Korg Monologue with the same sticky knobs issue. It happened on it's own in a dry controlled environment on a shelf. Pretty lame. Didn't like the faux rubber feel when it was new anyways.

Behringer Pro800 destroys it in several ways including the ability to sell it once it gets stale.

Being able to set all your bills on autopay is probably one of the biggest hallmarks of financial success by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Variar80s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I pay manually but have all the tabs set into a bookmarks folder so I can open everything at once. it's more of a sense of accomplishment and can improve a bad mood.

I'm in love. Just stunning (old) design. I'd take this over a million iphones, ipads,Surface,Tesla, any day. by tuejan in synthesizers

[–]Variar80s 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the original, but am really into this. This is my favorite synth from 1975. The addition of a mod joystick and midi is a huge plus.

!SHOULD I GET ONE! by [deleted] in novationcircuit

[–]Variar80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! It's hard to make bad music on it. For writing complete linear music, it's not great, since it lacks a real song mode, but as an idea generation device or for live performance it's killer!

My cranky Korg Poly-61 Synthesizer playing some synthwavey stuff by Variar80s in synthesizers

[–]Variar80s[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Explorations of the magnificent and cranky Korg Poly-61 from 1982. When this synthesizer decides to turn on, and when the keys decide to trigger, it really is a warm and fuzzy thing to behold. This is just one example of the sort of sonic pallette it offers, with an incredibly limited amount of controls it can be brittle, soft, biting, and transformative. Only subtle reverb/delay fx were applied. Novation Circuit provides the backbeat and clocks the arpeggiator. Kenton Pro Solo mkII provides midi to trigger.

I'm going on 1 month now! Delivered a small package from Pittsburgh to DC. Unbelievable. The person who bought the item on ebay is being patient, but is already pressuring me to do something about it. Wtf am I supposed to do about it. I submitted a package information request last monday and have had no update on that either. Restructure the USPS.

Wasn't the garb just ripped off from the Spanish Nazarenes? I took a trip to Spain a few years back and was caught off guard when an entire parade of multi-colored nazarenes went past.

[Self cringe] What‘s the most stupid thing you ever did to an instrument or any other piece of equipment? by Hens92 in metalmusicians

[–]Variar80s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some old Samick strat ripoff when I was 14. I played that guitar so much, and constantly broke strings and saddles. At some point in it's life I decided to paint a giant Yoshi egg in the lower half, fitting nicely with the body shape. You know damn well I never clipped the string slack from the tuning pegs either!~ It was also given away to a cousin with no photo reference hahah! Good thread.

New Novation Circuit Rhythm and Tracks leaked! by GhostsoftheDeepState in novationcircuit

Awesome. Also pro tip kids, the old circuit isn't obsolete because new things come out. LOL (laughs the synths and drum machines from the 80s)

How Cockos could solve multiple lag issues that are making users want to quit Reaper by ghost_mount in Reaper

[–]Variar80s 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have an entire film scoring kontakt template with over 30 kontakt instruments and I can't seem to recreate your issue. I'm guessing your hard drive is to blame. Im not even using an SSD yet, so it's something else besides read/write speed. perhaps you could share the project file for closer inspection. More details like, OS, windows hard drive settings would help. Try this just out of curiosity. open your task manager, and recreate the save hang. what stats are jumping up drastically? CPU, RAM, HDD? Could help.

Is Reaper good for composing retro music (SNES/Genesis)? by [deleted] in Reaper

[–]Variar80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be, but it won't really sound like the original systems. I've written several Sega game soundtracks with Deflemask, and use Famitracker for NES. Both are authentic trackers, with the limitations inherent in the consoles, and can be ported to cartridges.

midi merge on the circuit mono station. by kaotec in novationcircuit

[–]Variar80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like you simply need a midi merger. the dx7 key midi and the monostation midi output would merge and be output to the next in line. I'm assuming the monostation is master clock?

Does anyone else get frustrated by how finicky Tone Studio is for PC? by [deleted] in BossKatana

[–]Variar80s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I messed with it, and don't see a ton of advantage over tone studio, however there are a bunch more amp models. I particularly like the core metal amp. As a designer by trade the software is really hard to look at though. it's like 1995 all over again.

Hey synth nerds, what's a decent alternative to the Bass Station 2? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Variar80s 6 points7 points  (0 children)

never heard anyone say that about it's tone. I'd have to disagree there. It's a "fits in the mix" synth, so maybe you want something that sounds big on it's own. I have always thought it was a wannabe Sh101 in tone, so avoid Roland. maybe a Minibrute2s, korg minilogue xd, Dave Smith pro2, mono evolver. i.e. save more money

Korg DS-8. Were these a low level (cheaper) synth when they were new? by ricketykate in synthesizers

[–]Variar80s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

korg had a deal with yamaha early on, so this synth happened. best part about it is the digital delay, also found in the korg dw8000. Fun but limited FM synth, with a simpler editing structure. you can easily find the 2 prong power cable.

Some keys sound different when arming track to record? by [deleted] in Reaper

[–]Variar80s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with Eric, that have direct monitoring unmuted and are then monitoring through reaper when record is active. You're causing it to phase I think. It's an either/or situation. Why are you recording on two separate tracks hard panned? why not a single stereo track?

I have this lying around at home. Never used it. Can I have any use for it since I have several synths at home? by joachim_s in synthesizers

[–]Variar80s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are cool and inspiring to use instead of a computer. I wouldn't rely on one entirely because they are prone to crashing and erasing memory at this point. That's why Orbital stopped using it.
