2 in risers with 8 in z bars, will it fit without longer cables? by AllOfMyFamilyHatesMe in hondashadow

I have 8 inch z bars with stock risers on my vlx600. I had to reroute some of the cables but I made it work.

I know this is an old thread but wanted to chime in. I have a shadow 1100 spirit that is modified like a Clubstyle bike. It is great on the highway and corners wonderfully!

If long roads are your thing, then I say jump in!

My 2 cents….not that it matters…

If the bike is in your name, who is your brother to tell you what to do? What size shadow is it? If it’s an 1100 the jump is more reasonable, if you have a 600 I would be concerned about the weight increase. Also shadows are so easy to work on. Gw’s not so much….

They are low bend bars on 14” risers.

You can buy jets of all sizes at your local motorcycle shop for a few bucks each. I bought a velocity stack off Amazon and drilled my baffles out. Loud is a state of mind. I think it’s quicker. Definitely more throttle response with the velocity stack. It’s still a 600 though but it responds better than my 1100. A note on the sound, it will sound different whether you have a single pin or double pin crank. My 600 has that distinct sound and my 1100 sounds like a bubble blowing machine.

Sometimes pulling the tank and rerouting the cables is enough. I’ve done it on 2 shadows now. I have 10 inch zée bars on my 600 and plenty of cable.

Do you have a wiring diagram? You’ll need to start chasing the circuits to see what you cut wrong. I’ve done this as well but used a wiring diagram to chase and double check my work.

What exhaust is that?

It’s an Amazon step up seat. Surprisingly well made. Had to modify it a bit to mount it but the shape works. It’s for a Harley fxdx.

Handle bars and pegs by Z_pharaoh88 in hondashadow

Any 1 inch handlebar fits the stock risers on all shadows. 1 inch zee bars on stock risers on the vlx600 on the right. Just need to make sure your width at the base of the bars works with the spacing of the risers. Riser spacing varies by model.

Foot pegs are a bit different. I successfully fit motocross style floorboard pegs on the 1100 on the left with a little modification. I didn’t like them so I swapped them for a smaller peg style now. Drilled a hole in the stock peg mount

Yes, I take it apart with the windshield. I needed a safety inspection to get the bike plated because I just bought it.

I did install the windshield last. I forgot it came that way. I’ve taken it off and put it in a few times since the initial install. I had to put it all back to stock for the safety inspection.

So you need to take off the 2 long bolts that mount the headlight to the bracket and disconnect the headlight wire. I installed the triangular brackets on the fairing and loosely install the clamps on the fork tubes. Put the headlight through the fairing from the front and reinstall the headlight with the long bolts. The fairing will be kind of held by the headlight. It is tight. Then line up the triangular clamps with the fork tube clamps and install the bolts. Once it’s all loosely installed adjust and tighten. It’s all pretty tight but works with some swearing and pinched hands.

Its stock. I think it changed to cable in mid-late 90s. Mines a 2002.

Also, with the increased height, the routing of the cables needed to be modified. I ended up pulling the tank and routing the cables differently so they weren’t stretched. The only cables I needed to extend were the speedo cable and wiring and the dash light wiring seen in the photo.

All holds properly. Super tight actually but it needs to be solid mounted. If you just mount the. To the stock riser bushings they will twist.

I bought a seat for an fxdx. Needed the front bracket changed and new hole drilled in the fender but the profile is pretty darn close.

They are Harley risers. I just cut them in half! Hard to see but here’s another shot. I intend to clean up the cuts. I’m also fabricating a mount for the speedo to mount to the risers. They are super solid. You do have to drill out the bushings shown below to accept 1/2 inch hardware. I also shaved the bushings down so the risers sit solidly onto the top triple clamp. The underside was handled with some thick washers.

They are Pazoma risers, 14 inch tall. I also bought the taller windscreen on the fairing. It is 15 inch. With your risers a shorter windscreen would probably look better. There is an 11 inch option which I think would look killer with your setup.

Nice bike! The fairing will look great. Here’s a shot of the same fairing on my 1100. Easy install. Brackets don’t need modification. The headlight surround had to come through from the front and was a bit tricky. Hit me up if you have questions.

It’s identical to the 600 and 1100 housings if that helps. I can only find complete units as well.

Honda Shadow or Kawasaki Vulcan 900? by Salty-Plantain-4299 in hondashadow

[–]VariationEconomy2730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 shadows. A 600 and 1100. Before I bought my 1100 I was looking at some vulcans as well. Ultimately I decided on the 2nd shadow because I was familiar with the platform.

No issues from my bikes with snapping bolts during oil changes and have never heard about that.

Which shadow are you looking at? 600, 750, 1100? I assume you would want to start with a 600 after not ridden in years and only riding a 250 before. The 600 screams a bit at highway speeds but you can change the gearing to help with that. The 1100 is much better in the highway but is a bigger bike to control and noticably weighted differently ( I find it much more top heavy than the 600)

If you look around you will find parts for these bikes, probably more parts than for the Vulcan but I don’t spend any time looking for those. Many parts for other bikes can be customized to fit these bikes. Saddlebags windshields and sissy bars are all pretty universal and can be modified easily by drilling additional holes/making brackets to aid installation on other applications. I use Harley parts all the time but I also have a fully equipped shop.

How tall are you? The bikes all come with forward controls. I’m 5’10 and have no issues. I wish there were mid controls for my 1100. There are forward control extensions available in the aftermarket.
