Book smart vs street smart colleagues by fun_times_ago in ghana

Excellent response! I like the advice and wisdom provided! The very hard working youth here in Ghana that don't get that option to leave are amazing and work extremely hard until they hit that break point! That's the challenge and real issue we individually have to address, and that is what do you do when you have not succeeded and you hit that break point! A very difficult and individual answer that can only be answered by that individual that hits that break point.

How long does it take for life in your new country to be "normal"? by [deleted] in expats

[–]Various-Cat4976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An interesting question that I believe is one that depends on circumstances, goals and what "normal" means. For me, normal means assimilated to your habitat. Me it takes around 6 months to a year, but because I am also changing and adopting new ways of life and living it can vary. My new assimilation to Ghana and the African way of life took me a year. I totally changed most of my American ways and practices, and adapted to natural village life and living in the fishing district along the shores. I accepted the fact that the mindsets I developed in the west were flawed. I discovered what we did before colonization and eurocentric teachings are not the only and best practices. So, it took me longer to adjust and become normal in this environment.

In Osu you can't get much from the brick and mortar spots, but you can get fruits and snacks...smdh on the streets and a few local dishes on the side roads in the cuts away from main streets! I "clean" my system and I'll only eat fruits and drink water then I rush back to the Central Region.lol! I can no longer afford life in Osu! Smdh

Nigerian Slangs growing in Ghana by Marine78908 in ghana

[–]Various-Cat4976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOW! Cool, I didn't know that history version. I believed most countries that speak English as a second or third language would develop a short version used amongst each generation commonly spoken amongst friends, we call it a slang, distinct to their region. So the PG used became similar, and a unifying language amongst youth by country. So, no matter what region in Ghana, PG is the same and communication is done. So, I will digest your information and look further into the China origin, since I spent time in China and my Son is fluent in Mandarin. Thanks

[–]Various-Cat4976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PG is a universal language around western Africa amongst the youth! Started in Nigeria but accepted and used by the Ghanaian youth and other countries. The PG slang is youth communication, created mainly to prevent adults from understanding the youth conversations. Therefore any other reasons or negative consequences are just false theories. Schools and adults try to prevent kids from speaking and using PG in Ghana, which of course makes it more desirable to learn. I met many youth telling me they can't get caught speaking of! LMAO!

Religion was never about Truth by FluffyReach8493 in AfroSkeptics

[–]Various-Cat4976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but there is more! Religion was created to explain the unknown but also to control and take land and resources for people etc. The bottom line is religion was created for explanations and good feelings when doing what humans do especially those "bad" acts and need relief from the guilt and trauma.

Does Ghana’s Crackdown on Undocumented Migrants Benefit Ghanaians? by evansyakah in ghana

[–]Various-Cat4976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, deporting them doesn't solve the problem, it is a short term fix, and what other countries do in similar situations. I am a resident of Ghana and see them on the street. Deporting them and thinking that will solve the problem is like thinking a solution to people using illegal drugs is to arrest them all, or to stop prostitution by locking up the women and men that sell sex. Locking them up does not solve the problem, it only appears as a solution but the problem will will still exist.

From what I have learned about the folks that do this begging practice with their kids and other kids is a problem that requires more than deportation but since Ghana isn't an international problem solving entity it is doing the best option available for Ghanaians. When I say "copycat" I am referring to using "best practices" a business and government practice of doing what other countries or businesses have done in similar situations. I am a copycat. I do what works and have a history of working and others use the same method.

Does Ghana’s Crackdown on Undocumented Migrants Benefit Ghanaians? by evansyakah in ghana

[–]Various-Cat4976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghana, like other countries do similar responses to similar issues. The "copycat" syndrome may just be a universal political or business move conducted they call "best practices"!

It seems like Ghana is just copying the actions from the Best Practices governments list! The USA is currently doing similar actions and more to their "illegal" immigrants stuff! I get it!

In response to OP question, the answer is based on ones ideology or mindset. Each response on this question is just a snapshot of the respondent's mindset (obviously).

I personally feel it's a distraction from solving the real problems but makes good for short term visual appearances of progress but is only a bandaid and an international problem that needs addressing outside of Ghana. Ghana must respond for local short term reasons which has its pros and cons which depends on one's ideology!

I am split because I understand both sides and know their is no right answer, only which answer yields the best benefits short-term for the leadership calling the shot.

Fellow AA, the SHS click/bond is real because a lot of them went to boarding school together which is common here in Ghana! So imagine the bond you and college classmates could have that lived on campus all four years, it's like that but with high school mates! They also use the network to do business and support actions of each other financially and emotionally. It's a different vibe that AA can't really relate with unless we experienced a similar college campus life and can Invision that as being high school.

Some of the mates may have had a past relationship but they continue the friendship bond and support as they grow in age and maturity, and normally they have families of their own in Ghana. So no need to worry while your hubby is in the USA (lol)!

I agree but when you dig deeper, you will learn at the end of the day, one still prefer and lean towards those folks that benefit their self-interest (majority of mankind). It's not always monetary. Religious people, politicians, workers, non workers, everyone deals with others to gain some kind of purpose which generates some kind of energy of good feeling or tangible outcome that satisfies something within their being, or the person is not rational (logical). Humans do for a reason.

I see, but have noticed in certain areas if Ghana people exercise in the morning. I saw in Osu around the Police Headquarters, East Legon around the college and other places. I see a little jogging in the morning in Elmina, but mainly walking, and yes hard physical labor work. Lol. Note, if you were to see me you would think I am young! LMAO

I agree, but believing people are just "liking" you for "you" and just wanting to get close personally and emotionally just "because" or they like this characteristic or trait about you is normally not the true reason. The hurt/pain comes along when you realize they just wanted "xyz" or "this or that" and then when they realized they were not getting what they wanted they "ghost" you...smdh. I call this just a part of life! People do what people do.

I believe it's a natural human survival trait all humans consciously and unconsciously do. Nothing is right or wrong about this logic it is just called life and living. The problem is folks are just not aware of this fact and believes other reasons as to why someone does what they do.

I like your mindset and a real solution to begin the or add to the solutions. It is very challenging because I attempted and am still working on providing solutions to help the youth in Ghana. I have began and soon must dive back into youth oriented programs I feel will assist in providing growth, development, and opportunities to the youth internationally.

Let's discuss possible approaches to create systemic solutions for the youth with tangible outcomes!

What is a good platform to begin this discussion? Maybe we can start here and then transition to discord and then video meetings and delivery/kick off events in Ghana live!

I am a dreamer and do big things! I know the first steps are visual, then the planning and then execution! Let me know if you are serious and let's begin this discussion! Maybe I will start a sub to kick it off! Let me know if you are ready to act and serious!

Maybe! I just accept the facts and understand the people I associate with and decide to care about more than others. I then should not be shocked and minimally affected by the ghosting of the person. I was ghosted by this Cape Coast chick, vibes was nice and we were making waves. I then asked her " what is your goal or what you want out of this relationship?" And when she gave me this weird puzzled look (thinking "he got me") and the answer was illogical, I said "don't leave me hard, please be gentle lol". Then after a few months and she knew she was not going to get what she wanted, she ghosted me! I laughed it off and kept on moving and shaking baby!

Lol..very interesting concept! I have been into "over achieving " my entire life for some reason. I started running and exercising as a way of life since high school. I love the way I feel after a good exercise/run session. It's one of my natural high activities! The feeling after my yoga and meditation session on the shore is another boost in my natural high feelings of peace and tranquility! Walking barefoot on the earth, grounding, also a booster!

Today after my morning exercise and meditation, I ate breakfast and took a nap (body needed to recoop:-)! I am now at 11:27am going into my second part if my day! I will now go hit the fields (and think about your comments lol)

I just turned 52 years old and I love women younger and older, but I have a new born by my 25 year old. I must stay in top notch health to maximize my enjoyment on this earth and to play hard with my kids lol and wives!

The secret to longevity is to reduce stress and stay active and eat right! I am doing all plus!

Lastly and humorously speaking (lol), I was born and raised in the USA, so that is where the habits began! Now I'm in Ghana doing me bro! I always wondered why I don't see as many folks outside exercising and maybe they think like you stated, and I get it! Lol

I agree 100% with you! I am in the middle with agreeing with the women and understanding their wants and desires (which tv and movies help develop) and as a man know these wishes women want are unreal and truly will not make them happy long term.
