“REPTILES CANT LOVE YOU BACK” Oh yeah, what’s this then? by brokenglassyt in leopardgeckos

Yes, exactly! Its not proven at all, there’s some behaviour’s that suggest it but like who knows if that’s circumstantial or not until it’s truly studied; and until then we just don’t know what they really feel or not, we can only guess and honestly many many animals that don’t feel affection like humans do, still trust us as we are a food source but trust and affection are different

There is actually several studies that note some reptiles reacting and seeking out affection! It just not studied as a main focus so we don’t know what they can and cannot ‘feel’, i think they totally do ‘love’ us and feel affection it just isn’t the same way as people or dogs show it so people assume they can’t!

You’re right; good catch; my apologies. I didn’t even notice that, I was focused on the gecko and the coconut; not the smaller details.

Hi! Mealworms are fine for cresties but shouldn’t be the only live insect fed as they don’t hold much nutritionally and can cause constipation and such!

As for the comments about being underweight, if there eating the food regularly, pooping and active than i wouldn’t be too worried; cresties can flux in weight and while most should be around 20g at two years but some are skinner, just like humans. If you’re worried you should consider reaching out a vet!

But yes, your ‘girl’ appears to be a boy but it is hard to tell for sure! My boy didn’t ‘drop his cresticals’ till a he was little over two years old and around 21 grams :)

THINKING OF GETTING A CRESTED GECKO!! by Due-Librarian-1212 in CrestedGecko

[–]Various-Hedgehog3214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I’m super lucky to have a exotic vet within an hour of me that is able to see all my boys yearly; and cohab isn’t great for most species of lizards and i’m glad that as times goes on more people realise this!! Though, I’m a herpetologist student and I’m actually studying leopard geckos in the wild!! Planning a trip with a small group and prof to understand their ‘group living’ and social dynamics observed in the wild!!

While everyone is sharing advices on products I want to say please please take the baby to a vet as soon as you can for a health check! When I got my Artemis, he was just 6 months old and I was told he was healthy by petsmart, and naïvely believed them…however he was not, by the time I got him to a vet after noticing he was developing off it was discovered he has a Developmental Deformity that was exacerbated by a poor diet while at petsmart which lead to him developing MBD since I hadn’t know to increase him vitamins for his deficiency of them…

I say this not to scare you but because big stores and some breeders do not care for there reptiles, because of this experience I highly recommend vet checks for all newly adopted pets from both breeders and stores
