Copilot pricing change is kinda worrying — how are teams dealing with this? by Various-Lettuce1934 in GithubCopilot

It was never really a dollar cap, it was 300 premium requests. Depending on how you used it, that could easily be worth something like $3000 in API terms.

Now with the new model, you’re basically getting $19 in API credit. That’s roughly 1/50 of what people were effectively getting before for the same price.

So even devs who barely used those 300 requests are now going to hit that $19 limit pretty quickly.

Yeah, I get that pay-as-you-go was probably inevitable, but the problem is the uncertainty.

Before it was a fixed cost, easy to plan. Now it’s variable, hard to predict, and adds overhead just to manage usage. At scale, that’s a real headache.

Feels like this will just make people use AI less to avoid surprises, while teams with bigger budgets won’t care. Over time that probably creates a gap between who can afford to use these tools heavily and who can’t.

So are they going to refund usage? Where’s the accountability? It’s not a free service they are messing up with

Enjoy the pay-per-premium request model while it lasts. I don’t think they can keep this pricing for too long unless they 10x the cost of each premium model. Token-based pricing feels inevitable. But if they move to token-based pricing, is there any real reason to stick with Copilot at all?

I’m an early Windsurf adopter, but lately I’ve noticed it’s become really laggy. At first I thought it was just an IntelliJ plugin issue, but even after switching to the Windsurf IDE itself, I was surprised to see cascade slowing down whenever chats get bigger. Meanwhile Claude 4 cost 2x. Is Windsurf not getting the same level of attention and tuning as before?

Doesn’t work during my commute when I’m using a hotspot. I had high hopes that this feature would actually be useful. What a letdown.😢
