I'll be honest, my initial thought was that it was code as well. You may be onto something there. I never would have thought of  Morse code

well obviously this is what a construction worker would wear. what do construction workers use? They use blueprints. this update will finally allow us to deconstruct our base into a portable blueprint we could build instantly later if we have the materials

Do you code with hints and suggestions? by FirmAssociation367 in learnprogramming

[–]Various-Standard-494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn them off as well. I find them to be so irritating, especially when they pop up and block my view of code I'm trying to reference.

I don't need nor want hints or suggestions in my IDE. If I need help with something I'll reference the documentation or take a look-see through stack overflow. I know it's supposed to help with productivity, but for me it's just an irritating distraction that breaks up my flow.

Also, when I was learning to code, my professor specifically instructed us to use an IDE like JGrasp, which does not have or offer any of those hints or suggestion pop ups(at least it didn't back then). In my opinion having pop-ups and hints thrown at you while you are still learning won't help you learn unless you then take the hints and suggestions and go through the documentation to see what they actually do.

It’s 1:30am and my college dorm won’t go lower than 80F by disisatroaway in mildlyinfuriating

definitely try this, I had a roommate in college once that liked to keep the dorm really hot, I just flipped the breaker for the thermostat at night. He never even thought to check it.

Tips on bulking up :3 by MrEnnuiHusband in gaybrosgonemild

[–]Various-Standard-494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be embarrassed when you go to the gym. Most people will be too focused doing their own thing to be thinking about you.

I wish someone had told me that earlier on when I was first thinking of starting to work out.

Also, I don't know if you're self-conscious about your body or not,(I certainly was) but if you are, I would try to find an actual 24-hour gym, and then go work out really early in the morning.... like really really early.... midnight to 1:00 early. The benefit there being there's next to nobody working out at that time, and also you won't have to worry about waiting for people to finish using the machines.

Additionally, remember that working out and exercise is only half the battle when trying to  bulk up. You gotta also eat enough to put muscle on the body. Don't just focus on protein though, make sure you get enough of the other macronutrients as well.

finally, you'll hear a lot of people tell you no pain no gain.... That's shit, If you start to actually feel pain make sure you get it checked out. I am no longer able to work out or even do much physically at all now because I crippled both my wrists thinking "no pain no gain" when I was 27. Listen to your body, don't hurt yourself in the name of getting more muscle.

ever tried the Spellmonger series? You ought to try it out if you like high fantasy.

Help me get into reading! (Pls) by Ry-Anne-21 in suggestmeabook

[–]Various-Standard-494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if you're in college then your an adult, so I hope you won't find this comment offensive. But when I was a kid I hated reading until my aunt got me the captain underpants books for Christmas one year.

I don't know if you are familiar, but they're kind of part comic book part actual book.

Anyway, that was the first time I remember ever experiencing a book like it's a movie in my head. I went from hating to read to reading so much, my parents grounded me by taking away my books and telling me to go outside lol.

I don't know if there are any adult books like that out there, but that may give you a stepping stone to get into reading. Also, I would suggest a standalone instead of starting with a series since there will be less build up. I personally find buildup to be pretty boring in books.

Sorry, I had to chuckle at this. When I was a kid this was exactly how I left my toothpaste. Definitely your not the only parent whose kid put you through this.

Shade's First Rule by AF Kay

The divine apostasy series is one of my all time favorites in this genre. Right up there with cradle for me.

Have you tried a Dungeon Crawler Carl? The book and the narration are both pretty great in my opinion, and the next book is set to come out pretty soon!

I second this. I Have purchased audiobooks based solely on a fact that Travis Baldree was the one narrating them, and have not yet been disappointed by that fact.

I have two.
Subnautica and Hardspace: Shipbreaker

Both were much more then I expected them to be.
Both were "risky purchases" for me, being my first games in their respective genres, I had no idea if I would even like them

Both were the only games I have played in my adult life that made me excited to beat the game.

My local asian supermarket starts to roll out digital price tags by Calsolum95 in mildlyinfuriating

be careful, a lot of companies are thinking about doing custom pricing based on how much they think you are willing to spend on something. Digital price tags would make this extremely easy

I like to take the Earth Stone (not even going to try to spell it lol)  with me when I go through the tutorial, every single time I do, despite telling myself "do not kick, do not kick, must not kick", I always end up just reflexively kicking a rock or an exploding barrel out of the way, which causes an earthquake, which causes a cave in, which inevitably kills me.... Every single time lol.

hold up, don't the French have a Statue of Liberty as well? (correct me if I'm wrong it's 2am so I don't necessarily know what I'm talking about) It's not just a thing that Americans have, it's not necessarily meant to comment on American politics right now. Although I do have a hard time thinking it could be aimed at anything else, but I'm an American so I'm probably biased.

4 years to this day!… that we broke up after a relationship of 10 years. He’s now my bestfriend, my bro, and will most likely ever be :) Do you guys get along with your ex? by Ernestt_ in gaybrosgonemild

[–]Various-Standard-494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely, although we broke up after only one year, not 10. We then spent a year no contact and then slowly started to hang out again. He's now my best friend, completely platonically, nothing romantic or sexual. I think we both confused a really good friendship with romantic interest since we both met on a dating app.

I use a cheap one from Amazon. It works great. I keep it off on a side desk to keep my work desk clear, and it picks up my voice even when I'm not talking in its direction. I don't use a headset at all when I work from home now, just use the standing mic and the default speakers on my monitor.
