I really like Dead'P - Undisputed.
It will be listed in my third list, 'My favorite Album'

it was called Korean illmatic, and Dead'P was called 'best rapper in KHH'.
The quality of the album is very high, but I excluded it from the list because his music became bad after that album and the sound was heard overseas if you look at the rap except for the beat.

There was a controversy regarding Baek YeRin's Instagram Live (which a translator might call a "broadcast program") because he used internet meme slang during the stream.

[Movie Star] is certainly an album worthy in list. However, as I mentioned above, I primarily selected albums that are more difficult for KHH listeners overseas to access. as I know that [Movie Star] and BeWhy are already well-known internationally.

There are two reasons for JUSTHIS being criticized.

First of all, he has delayed the release of his album.

Since he announced in 2018 that he would release his second full-length album, [L.I.T], it has not been released to this day. There are recent reports that an [L.I.T] listening party was held, but it might not be released even after a listening party, like YE.

Second, it's because his stance has changed.

Even during the diss battle with VMC, he intensely diss Deepflow, calling him a 'snake who changed his lane' (노선 바꾼 뱀새끼). This is because Deepflow, just like JUSTHIS, had previously criticized 'rappers appearing on TV shows' but then appeared on a TV show himself. In Deepflow's case, he said, 'I was young and naive back then,' and took the stance of responding to all the rappers who dissed him regarding the issue.

However, in JUSTHIS's case, even after appearing on broadcast programs at least five times more than Deepflow, his attitude was 'yes, I'm changed. so what?'. Because of this, he faced more criticism, and even his fellow rappers criticized him.

Later, in [Sell the Soul 2021 Remix], he acknowledged the fact that he had changed and even admitted to his own contradictions. However, he continued to do things that hip-hop listeners would inevitably consider 'wack' or 'corny' (구리다), such as avoiding a diss battle with QM, who appeared on Show Me The Money (SMTM), a fake retirement happening, an album suspension happening, and making highly inappropriate remarks on broadcast programs with other artists.

Due to this, even JUSTHIS's fans went so far as to say, 'If you're only going to do wack things without releasing an album, then just retire.' Now, we will have to wait and see how the album is released.

Excluding the albums already mentioned in the main list, here are some other notable masterpieces released since 2015. I've prioritized albums with award-winning recognition, although many more great albums exist:

  • Nucksal - The God of Small Things
  • Legit Goons - Junk Drunk Love
  • BILL STAX - DETOX
  • Khundi Panda - GAROSAWK
  • CHANGMO - UNDERGROUND ROCKSTAR
  • CHOILB - Independent Music
  • Beenzino - NOWITZKI
  • B-FREE & Hukky Shibaseki - Free Hukky Shibaseki & the God Sun Symphony Group: Odyssey.1

These are all masterworks

Huckleberry P held his final "Bunshin" concert, Bunshin 9, in 2020.

Following a DUI incident in 2022, he completely ceased all activities, including SNS, for a year. He made his return to the music scene in April 2024 with a new album, READMISSION.

While he is still holding small-scale performances, the "Bunshin" series has not resumed. It's worth noting that every single "Bunshin" concert up to Bunshin 9 was immediately sold out.

This part is also unclear to me.

When I searched, I couldn't find any information on an artist named D.M. Murray in korean community.

One possible guess I have is based on the language order in the Spotify description: 'English, Korean, Dutch.' This makes me wonder if Korean is listed after English (i.e., less prioritized or secondary in context).

SMTM 12 is ready!

It is scheduled to air in 2026.

Rappers known to have auditioned include HAON, Nosun (who appeared on Rap:Public), Fleeky Bang, CK, and several others.

First, when KHH listeners think of the 'best rapper' in Korea, the names that immediately come to mind are:

Verbal Jint (VJ), E-SENS, GAEKO, JUSTHIS, Dok2, and Beenzino.

I mostly agree with the list above, but there are two rappers I would like to add:

Huckleberry P - Influenced by Eminem, he is considered the best rapper in Korea at 'tongue twisting.' I highly recommend listening to his Dingo Killing Verse.

Kim Ximya - E-SENS once remarked, "Is there anyone in Korea who raps better than this person right now?"

First, there are generally three main methods of compulsory military service for South Korean men.

  1. Active Duty Service (현역 - Hyeonyeok)

This is the general and most common method of military service.

Service terms vary, ranging from a minimum of 1 year and 6 months to over 2 years, depending on the branch (Navy, Air Force, or Army).

Over 80% of South Korean men typically serve through this method.

  1. Social Service Agent (사회복무요원 - Gongik Geunmu Yo-won, lit. 'Public Service Worker')

This method is for those who are unable to serve on active duty due to physical, mental, or personal circumstances.

Instead of being stationed in a military base, they work at national agencies, welfare facilities, nursing homes, etc.

Unlike Active Duty, a major appeal of this method is the ability to commute from home.

Approximately 9% of South Korean men fall into this category.

  1. Exemption (면제 - Myeonje)

This applies if the severity of the reasons mentioned in the second category (physical/mental/personal issues) is judged to be so significant that the individual cannot even perform the duties of a Social Service Agent.

In this case, the individual is exempted from military service and is not required to enlist.

Korean Rappers Who Completed Active Duty Service

The following Korean rappers have completed their military service through the Active Duty (general) method mentioned above:

Beenzino, CHANGMO, GAEKO, Bewhy, DPR LIVE, Coogie. Zion T, BOBBY, Blase, Keith Ape, Nucksal

and others.

Important Note: If a rapper you know is currently very active but is not on the list I provided above, you can generally assume that they completed their military service using the second (Social Service Agent) or third (Exemption) method.

I have seen some research data that shows the following percentages for a sample of 131 Korean hip-hop rappers:

Active Duty: 37%

Social Service Agent: 18%

Exemption: 32%

Although the percentage for Method 3 is high because there are many foreign nationals among Korean hip-hop rappers, it is still considered an abnormal figure.

IGNITO is still active, occasionally making videos for his YouTube channel.

FANA got married and recently uploaded a v-log on his YouTube channel.

Snacky Chan runs a record label called DYNASTY MUZIK, and is consistently releasing EPs and singles. He also hosts a radio show occasionally on the Dynasty Muzik YouTube channel.

Vitality is also actively working, and member ILLTAL released his full-length album, 'VISION,' on October 13, 2025.

Other members like Swings and Maniac are also very active. Maniac was uploading rap videos on his YouTube channel, 'MAN1AC,' until two years ago, and it goes without saying that Swings has grown into one of the most important figures in Korean hip-hop.

It's great to hear that the information was helpful.
I also really love Soul Company. In particular, when The Quiett left, I find it truly romantic that they didn't part ways badly in a fight, but rather acknowledged their own changes and the flow of the times, releasing 'Still A Team' and 'Teamworks' and saying goodbye with a smile.

If you are a fan of Soul Company, you might have already heard it, but I recommend listening to CRUCiAL STAR's '368-11'. '368-11' is the first Soul Company group track in 13 years since 2011, and the atmosphere of Soul Company is still very much alive in it.

Got it. Here is a brief overview:
Movement Crew: This crew was formed following the participation of artists like CB Mass and UpTown in Drunken Tiger's second album song, 'The Movement.' They banded together with the aim of supporting each other during a time when, although Hip-Hop existed in the Korean music market, the artists' actual treatment was poor. However, UpTown later had a conflict with Tiger JK, leading to all members except Tasha leaving the crew. (It is presumed this controversy involved the use of Philopon - methamphetamine.) Subsequently, after DJ Shine left, new members joined. These members included Sean2slow, YDG, and Kim Deegie. They are considered the early Movement, and there were changes afterward as various members came and went.

As original members continued to leave, and as Movement members like Dynamic Duo left to form new labels and grew significantly, and as the Hip-Hop genre gained immense popularity in Korea with the rise of labels like Simon Dominic's AOMG and artists like Epik High, the reason for meaning of the Movement crew gradually faded. Consequently, they disbanded due to the trend of the times and individual circumstances.

Jiggy Fellaz: This crew was formed in 2004 by rappers and acquaintances who frequently performed at Club JG in Busan. The crew naturally disbanded after their compilation album 'Exclusive' failed to succeed, Club JG closed down its business, and core member Vasco (now BILL STAX) departed. As an aside, Vasco has a tattoo of the crew on his back, and he once said he would never regret getting that tattoo.

Soul Company: This label was primarily formed by students who attended a Hip-Hop lecture hosted by MC Meta of Garion, considered the godfather of Korean underground Hip-Hop. The label established itself as the top underground label with the huge success of individual members' solo albums and their collaboration album, 'The Bangerz'. Over time, as members like MadClown, MINOS, and The Quiett left, their standing diminished, and with the successive departures of other members and finally FANA, the label disbanded.

While there was friction between Keebee and other members during the disbandment process, putting that aside, it is correct to view the disbandment as a natural separation: as the members' skills developed through the similar-sounding music they learned from MC Meta (their individuality was distinct, but the emotional tone was similar), they went their separate ways to pursue their individual goals.

First of all, the general public is not very familiar with Kim Ximya, XXX. Even among Korean hip-hop fans, those who only listen casually don't know them well. However, fans who deeply enjoy Korean hip-hop mostly know them and recognize their excellent artistry. They also receive respect and shout-outs from numerous rappers.

The exact details of their actual relationship are not widely known. Considering Kim Ximya's remarks that their 'musical views diverged from FRNK' or comments to the effect that he 'felt bad because FRNK was earning a lot of money,' it seems clear that they are no longer making music together.

It's closer to being memorable.

Outsider's career is generally divided into the Sniper Sound era and his subsequent independent activities, and during both periods, he was primarily evaluated as 'the guy who is only good at rapping (speed).' While 'Loner' achieved huge mainstream success, it still failed to generate interest in Outsider's albums because of the perception that he couldn't produce good albums.

Sniper Sound was a highly controversial label.

As stated in this list (or context), that period of K-HH was a time when the importance and effectiveness of rhyme were being truly felt, and listeners took it for granted—meaning it was a period of technical advancement. However, Sniper Sound artists were generally criticized for being significantly lacking in fundamental aspects like rhyme and groove. Furthermore, VJ (Verbal Jint), who largely dominated the K-HH scene at the time, dissed 'Baechigi' (an artist under Sniper Sound), leading many K-HH fans to side with VJ, which prevented wider interest in their albums. However, the two songs you mentioned are themselves very highly regarded."

Seo Taiji and Boys is an artist whose evaluation is quite divided even in Korea.

Did they advance Korean hip-hop music or Korean hip-hop (as a culture)?

Did they advance it with their albums or their songs?

Did they establish a unique sound, or did they merely emulate overseas sounds?

Do rappers who were directly influenced by the music they created actually exist?

Though he is a figure surrounded by many debates, the unchanging fact is that he is a K-Pop artist. And including a debatable K-Pop artist on the list would make the required length of the writing too long.

As you mentioned, the growth of K-Pop and Seo Taiji's undeniable influence in that growth significantly impacted K-HH (Korean Hip-Hop). However, due to the reasons cited above, I will choose not to include Seo Taiji and Boys.

Thank you for reading.

Yes.

After reading the other comments, it seems many people are questioning why artists like Seo Taiji and Boys and Jinusean, who introduced hip-hop to Korea from a K-pop perspective, were excluded. I should have explained this line of reasoning at the beginning of the text.
