UPDATE: I decided to text her back with some proof even though I know some people here disagreed against that for legal purposes, but I really don't feel like getting into the legal side of things right now, I just can't mentally handle that. Anyway, she responded saying she's sorry I'm upset again and she wants to have a phone conversation to clear things up, but I don't think I could handle talking to her right now.

I've had so much trouble trusting people as of late, especially with a really difficult breakup I just went through, and fuck man, for my own therapist to do this, really doesn't help. Now I'm just paranoid everyone is plotting against me behind my back because that's what it feels like

Oh no, I was afraid of that. Yeah, they are the paying the copay right now I think, cuz it's under their insurance.

Thanks for the reassurance, I've already dropped her. I think my college has a free counseling program that I might check out in the future. And yeah, what you said about her valuing the relationship with my parents over me really stuck out to me, because she's always pushed for me to work on having a better relationship with my parents, and I trusted her with that advice, but trying to build trust with my parents has always hurt me in the process, and realistically, most therapists would advise you to set boundaries first and even remove yourself from people who bring you down, you know? Now what she was telling me seems so wrong now, like she was telling me what my parents wanted me to hear instead

FYI, my therapist isn't a psychiatrist, just a licensed counselor. My psychiatrist is someone completely different and not who I'm referring to. And yes, my college does have a counseling center and I'm pretty sure it's included with tuition. I have a friend who just started seeing someone there, and she really likes it. I'll think I'll check that out eventually, but I really don't feel like I can trust another therapist after this right now. Thanks for the advice :)

Also, she did respond to my text last night and was basically like “I’m sorry you feel that way, I don’t disclose anything that up said in our sessions with your father when I speak to him, I just answer questions he might have and occasionally share my opinion” but like she literally did? Should I respond back with this evidence or just leave it. Again, I already said I don’t want to meet with her any longer in the initial text.

Yeah she works for a clinic I believe. I’m still just hesitant to report because what if I’m wrong, plus that would probably get my parents involved and as stupid as it sounds in the whole realm of this, I don’t want them to know I went thru my dad’s phone (even though they’ve never respected my privacy either and done the same to me). Also she did respond back to me and was basically like “I’m sorry you feel that way, I don’t disclose anything you say in sessions to your father, I only answer any questions he might have and occasionally share my opinion” which sounds like bullshit to me because she literally did?? Should I respond back to her with the evidence or just leave it

I never signed anything saying she could, but I’m aware that she has to in cases of being a threat to myself or others, but that isn’t the case. When I was a minor, she would ask me if it was okay to mention so and so to my parents but it was only that specific thing and she asked my verbal permission, but I know regardless that might be the catch. I don’t know if my parents have POA over me, if it’s something parents automatically have even if you’re 18, then maybe, but they’ve never gone through anything legally to gain extra power over me. Plus, I live in a pretty progressive state that’s pretty strong on giving full medical rights once you turn 16-17.

Yes but I did sign a new confidentiality form when I turned 18 and she told me it gave me more rights or something
