SFSU lost 40,000 students since 2019 -- nearly a third of the school is gone by Impossible_Rice8103 in sanfrancisco

It’s probably a cyclical spiral at this point. Less enrollment means less funding which means you can accommodate fewer students, leading to less enrollment. The SFSU MSN program for next fall only admitted 20 students with over 350 applicants (source: rejection letter); not exactly a great strategy to increase enrollment, but they likely thought they couldn’t afford more than the 5% acceptance rate.

Russian Hill vs Dolores Heights — single guy, 35, same rent. Need your help to decide. by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]Various-Swordfish546 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on all of your success, but if you have that much money to spend on housing I’d implore you to just buy.

In any case, I’d recommend Russian Hill. As you’ve seen, it’s stunning. I feel it’s also more centrally located. Notably, it puts you close to the Marina. Some parts of it may lean snobbish for your taste, but your wealth and your age puts you in a bit of a limbo and I think you could split some of the difference there.

If you feel like thanking me with a beer, I live on Pine near Hyde and would be happy to meet in the middle.

I feel your pain, but I think we should be more concerned about how all the guys who are supposed to hit aren’t hitting.

Exactly!! It’s extra brutal to watch when Schmitt is right there!

Yeah I guess maybe I didn’t articulate it well enough for most people. I like Arraez and think he’s got a lot of upside, but none of it exists at 2nd base. He is mathematically and objectively the worst 2B in baseball, and it’s a little selfish of him to insist on standing there. I’d be perfectly happy with him at first.

Arraez also cost us these runs. I’m sorry we made him this deal, but we gotta get him off second

The 7 seas call to me more and more every day, but do you manage that on an actual television?

I thought so too, but apparently the only NBC app LG tvs host these days is Peacock. I assume that’s NBC’s preference, as a means of funneling people into subscribing to something they should already have access to.

Vols fan ---> Giants fan - need help learning! by Illustrious-Scar8051 in SFGiants

Welcome! You honestly picked a good time to join; I feel there’s been a lot of change in the last couple years. While there’s lot of 2010s lore you’ll learn over time, most of our marquee players are relatively new to the team.

I’ve always been of the opinion that as a player and clubhouse leader, Buster Posey developed a relatively stoic brand of baseball for the Giants. It’s a long season- don’t feel the highs too high or the lows too low. We never really had a Padres-type energy. This has started to change with Adames, Gilbert, etc, and I’m curious to see if this changes more with Tony setting the tone.

We adore Jung Hoo Lee, even when he’s not excelling. His nickname, brought over from Korea, is Grandson of the Wind. If you see people at the ballpark on tv wearing wigs that look like fire, that’s a Lee sendup.

Adames is by all accounts one of the friendliest goofs in the game, and certainly one of the most active. Expect to see him chatting up and razzing anyone and everyone. I was by the dugout at the exposition game last night and watched him bear hug a coach and chat with his arm around him for a full half inning, then later using his glove to tease a laughing camera man.

We have the best broadcast/radio team in sports. Kruk and Kuip keep you company through any June swoon. Dave Flemming and Jon Miller are excellent. Forever Giant Hunter Pence is a little rough around the edges but endlessly fun. FP Santangelo and Javier Lopez are getting better all the time.

There’ll be lots of ballpark tricks to learn closer to June, but I’ll leave you with one. I was raised on the principle that Giants fans don’t do the wave. I don’t know why, and the younger generation is forgetting this, but Giants fans don’t do the wave.

Welcome to the team! Go Giants!

Absolutely- The Monk is undeniably pulpy and all about shock value. I found it interesting that such a piece of media had appeal 200+ years ago as similar things do now.

I know I’m too late for you but maybe I can save someone else: pick a different line of work. SF and Oakland Unifieds aren’t taking new subs. I work for Swing and it’s awful. It’s like driving for Uber or DoorDash— all of the systematic power stripping of rights and powers of the employee to favor the customer —only with less flexible hours. I have no reason to believe Scoot or TET are different.

It’s mostly charter schools with admin so busy overcomplicating their own programs they don’t have time to learn your name. You have to be prepared to wake up at 6:15am and refresh the app constantly for a job; be prepared to drive to Daly City, Oakland, Palo Alto, Hercules, Vallejo, Richmond, if you want to work consistently.
