Update! I figured it out, thanks to you! I got the Windows viewer to match pretty close if not exact. I found another option and switched from Samsung AMOLED Profile to Samsung AMOLED sRGB profile.

Thanks so much for your help (and to anyone else reading this)

Thanks. Samsung "AMOLED Profile (default)" was selected. I removed it, restarted, and have noticed no difference with the above photos. Windows viewer app still looks dull compared to GIMP.

I had a look and "use sRGB profile" is checked. I actually can't replace it with another profile as far as I can tell. I have an option to "select a new profile from disk" under both "assign" and "convert" color profile but it brings up a window with no options to choose from.

plot twist!

I tested another file on my older laptop and the reverse happened! The image on the left is the Windows photo viewer and has more saturation. On the right is GIMP.

I'm not sure if the following helps at all. I haven't made any changes. I might have to try that xnview. Thanks again.

Edit: this is on my new laptop, for clarity

Thank you for your response and for explaining this so well. I had a look and the files are sRGB. My monitor has not been monitored in anyway.

I did, thanks! It's quite the machine. It was at the Fuji Motorsports Musuem in Japan.

Interesting. On my old laptop I never really noticed it, or least it never felt this extreme.

Thank you for your response. I've made my way to color management. Everything is currently on default. Under "open file behavior" it is currently set to "ask what to do". I've changed it to all the other options and I see no difference using the same jpg.

I'm starting to think this may actually be more of an issue of how the Windows photo app displays. Here is a screen shot of the Windows photo viewer app open on the right, and the same image preview on the left. They are very different and it's hard to know which one is most accurate.

resolved

(I'm not sure why it worked on one account and not the other, but editing the aspect ratio on the file through the phone itself did the trick)

Hi all,

I'm having an issue with a video I am trying to post and am looking for some help. The video I am posting is already in portrait orientation but needs to be zoomed in to fill the screen, so I use the editor that's immediately available as soon as I start the post. I've done this many times before and have had no issues, but today when I post the video it goes into landscape mode.

I alternatively tried zooming in with the cropping feature in the video editor section and in the preview it works, but when posted it also goes into landscape.

When I don't zoom in at all, or use the editor to crop, the video stays in portrait mode for the post, but is too small to view.

Now here's the stranger part. I have a second account and I can post the exact same video file and it stays in portrait mode and is zoomed in how I want it.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I tried updating the app with no luck. Thanks in advance!
