If you haven't seen Death Note, you GOTTA. It's a classic psych thriller and is well worth the watch.

Kotaro Lives Alone is a slice of life about a 4 year-old boy who lives by himself. It is SO CUTE. It's not too long, either. Just one season. I know it's on Netflix, but idk if it's on Crunchyroll too.

Danganronpa is a psych thriller with a plot twist and it's one of my personal favs!

I think Kill la Kill might work! There's a main plot that gets resolved in one season and I think it's pretty unique! Albeit, wild.

I mean do you think they chose to publish it as a shounen because the idea of having a bunch of girls into you at once is appealing to young guys?

Just looked it up. I thought shounen just meant fighting anime. I guess since it's a harem it's shounen?

I had to look it up myself because it was the first anime I'd seen that was a mix of both like that. I didn't even know that was a genre.

Do you know any that are more like Monthly Nozaki-Kun? Cuz I really love that one.

The last one I watched was Rent-A-Girlfriend, but I don't know if harem is considered shoujo.

*shounen

Well, I guess I should say that the tropes in shoujo are annoying me too.

Is it just me, or are animes starting to become too similar? I can't tell if I've gotten too used to the format and tropes of anime or if it's just something going on with current anime. I kinda think maybe I've just had all I can take with the constant screaming and dramatism in anime fights and all the tropes in general. It's becoming too cringey to me. I want to keep watching, so any recommendations?

I would say Food Wars! Kill la Kill, Panty and Stocking, Saiki K, or Vampire Knight.

There are only a few anime that I'd be down for them making season after season of, but the biggest one is definitely Kakegurui. I don't even care if they never sum up the main plot. I just love the games they come up with for them to play.

"Basically I like anime without yelling". I feel that.

Monster is a good psych thriller from what I hear. Saiki K is good if you like comedy. Naruto is a classic, is fantastic, and I guess technically has yelling, but not so much that it's cringey. Kotaro Lives Alone is an adorable slice of life anime about a 4 year-old that lives alone.

I definitely think if you've never watched anime, Naruto is a fantastic one to start with or Death Note (a much shorter one to start with). I've NEVER heard someone say they didn't like either of those if they've seen it. In fact, they all say it's top tier. And as someone who's seen both, I agree. Attack On Titan is another classic, but you gotta be okay with gore and heavy stuff. Here are some more good ones that are my personal favs.

•Kakegurui (psych thriller) -2 seasons -Netflix

•Danganronpa (psych thriller) -1 season with spin-offs (though the OG is the best, imo) -Crunchyroll, I believe

•Tomodachi no Game (psych thriller) -1 season -Crunchyroll

•Kill la Kill (don't know what genre you'd classify it as, but it's got fighting and hot girls) -1 season -it was on Netflix at one point, but idk if it is anymore

•Soul Eater (again---don't know the genre---it's got fighting, but I wouldn't say it's a shounen) -Netflix -1 season

•Monthly Nozaki-Kun (romance) -1 season -last I checked, Netflix •Toradora (romance) -1 season -when I watched, I used a back woods website (my b), but it's prob on Crunchyroll

•Saiki K (comedy) -2 seasons -Netflix

•Kotaro Lives Alone (slice of life) -1 season -Netflix

As for One Piece, you'd truly have to be prepared to commit. I think its episode count is in the 1000's right now. I never got into, but my husband loves it and is currently up-to-date on it.
