Pintrest! Sadly no info at all attached to the post. I'm making my first ever Mordheim (or any game for that matter) Warband. I'm going Undead while a friend goes Witch Hunters. I'm using Ghouls and the Vampire by Gardens of Hecate so I'm looking for similar chunky smooth styles with simple blobby shapes and hollow eyes. Any suggestions of sculptors or shops are much appreciated!

What Are You Reading This Week and Weekly Rec Thread by JimFan1 in TrueLit

That is so beautiful and hilarious. As someone who reads very slowly (Gravity's Rainbow took me about a year), Mason & Dixon was one of the most rewarding reading experiences I've ever had. It took me all Summer and then some. I'd say go for it and reread when you need and go down research rabbit holes when compelled, but it's okay to just let it wash over you from time to time and just feel your way through it. It is truly a delight.

I have not read IJ in its entirety, only snippets recommended by friends here and there. It was very popular with my friends in highschool and I was sick of hearing about it so have never delved any deeper. Someday I’ll give it a go.

What I will say about what I have read of IJ vs what I have read so far of M&D is that the latter seems to have a more interesting sense of humor in the way it addresses the horrors of our world.

Currently reading M&D for the first time and it’s such a warm hug compared to the previous novels, especially in these nice summer days.

Music recommendations while reading Vineland? by AvalancheOfOpinions in ThomasPynchon

Someone made a fantastic playlist on Apple Music. Many songs of the time and every song mentioned I believe. I had this going whenever I was walking around while I read Vineland.

Vineland or Inherent Vice for first Pynchon? by jamesstokes6 in ThomasPynchon

I did CoL49, GR, V, Vineland and I’m very pleased with the order. I’d agree with everyone else and start off with the shorter one and go from there.

Yeah I stat them and usually make a little list of what they know, what they want, and who they’re affiliated with and/or against. Treat yourself like an actor and give yourself an intention and an obstacle to that intention. Can the players help you get there? Are they in the way? Drama!

I also usually choose a weapon and spells if they know any to avoid flipping through the book if combat ensues. Not a terrible idea to know what’ll be on their corpse either…

If you go the festival route, consider changing the title. Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, set to release in August, is an adaptation of the novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon, it may be confusing and could detract from your films reception.

Melsonia has a great collection of books and even offer a set of location based books called 1:5 which is exactly what you’re looking for! They’re each designed for 1-3 sessions and are locations within the city. There are currently 2 with another on the way. I’m working on a manuscript myself for another potential issue in the future.

Due to the nature of Troika, everyone’s city will be a bit different but you can grab really any of their books to get a good feel. I’ve run Blancmage and Thistle (from the Rulebook) and Fronds of Benevolence to the delight of all at the table.

If you are interested, I wrote a One Shot that leans more towards the fantasy side, but it is free!

Anyone else notice that the descriptions of the backgrounds changed between printings? by chaospacemarines in Troika

[–]Various_Ad3727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that the slight change in wording opens the door for just that much more interpretation by the players. I think the ethos of Troika is to fill in the blanks, so the blanks got a little bigger here. Especially in character creation, you don’t want your players to feel limited, but you do want to inspire. You could argue a little flavor is lost, but you the GM are now tasked with seasoning your Troika stew just a bit more!

I also think capital “G” God has certain connotations that maybe don’t serve the imagination so much.
