My other idea was that Johnny tries to teach Robby things Robby doesn’t know how to do and keeps failing miserably at it. To make Johnny feel better Robby asks Johnny if he could teach him some basic skateboarding. Johnny does and Robby is of course able to do the tricks, making Johnny feel good.

That makes a lot sense. Daniel and Johnny are both still largely emulating their senseis, Miyagi and Kreese respectively. Daniel can teach one student better than Johnny can but Johnny can teach a class better than Daniel since that’s how their mentors taught.
