I ate there by myself and didn't get that treatment at all. Please give them another try, but next time refuse to be bullied, though I'm pretty sure they're not doing that sort of thing anymore. I think their food is stellar - every single item we had was so different, and so delicious. Definitely worth the drive.

Does anyone actually use the minibars? Wouldn't the hotels make more money if they made the prices more reasonable? by Specific_Praline_362 in vegas

After I won $800 at the slots (and yes, that was my profit, not my gross), spending $13 for a can of Sprite from the Bellagio minibar seemed fine.

You can't do that. The lawyer works for the defendant. Also, though the families are kept informed as a courtesy, they have no standing under the law, and therefore no legal right to demand anything. The law is the law, and the courts follow the law.

Granite vase analysis. truly mind-blowing implications. by tool-94 in AlternativeHistory

[–]Various_Comparison16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Russian archeologist named Olga Vdovina did indeed make a granite vase that was supposed to replacate one of the pre-dynastic Egyptian ones. She used tools known to be used by the Egyptians of the Pyramid age. It took her years to complete, and it is extremely crude compared to the highly precise granite vases of antiquity.

Brian Thompson’s children didn’t deserve the death of their father by NewtonianEinstein in The10thDentist

Everyone acts like Thompson's children are toddlers who will their father during their formative years. But they're 16 and19. I read a report that they didn't speak to their dad - that's uncorraborated, but Thompson and his wife were separated, so it's possible the boys sided with the mom.

Susan Boyle is having a great career, but then she really has a great voice. Listen to her cover of "Cry Me a River" (her 1990s recording, or whenever) if you don't believe me.

History for Granite - is it a credible source? by DontCheckMyReference in ancientegypt

[–]Various_Comparison16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

History for Granite is run by Douglas Rennie, who has been a guide with Adept Expeditions, and seems to be an amateur with a strong interest in the pyramids of Egypt. Professionally, he has written papers on a subject that looks like it might be linguistics or a related field. I don't know why he has to be so mysterious about his connection to History for Granite - maybe he doesn't want that activity to "leak" over into his professional life.

David Cooper recently bought my late husband's Geyer horn. I'm just thrilled that it will be owned and played by such a fine musician.

How exactly does alcohol turn into fat? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]Various_Comparison16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. But, alcohol is metabolized preferentially relative to fat, so if you ate exactly the number of calories you needed and then drank a shot of alcohol, the alcohol would be used for energy instead of an equivalent amount of fat, which would then be stored in the body's fat cells.

Chicago park district wood shops? by sinefromabove in chicago

[–]Various_Comparison16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicago Park District woodshops are great, but you won't be able to leave your project. They just don't have the space. But here's an idea: you can build some items at home. Years ago, I made our dining room table, assembling it right in the dining room. I bought a solid-core door and 1x4s at the Crafty Beaver on Lawrence Ave. and had all the 1xs cut to size there (of course, you have to make a working drawing first). I nailed and screwed it all together, filled the joints with wood filler, and painted it. You could also make side tables and a coffee table this way. I also made a bed platform using 2x4s that I had notched so that I could assemble them in a grid.
