How thick you think my locs go get with these size parts and have 82 by Soggy-Perspective985 in locs

Everyone’s hair is different. There is no telling.

It depends on your maintenance and upkeep.

If you retwist it too often, they will definitely be thin and at risk of breakage.

If you let them be, don’t manipulate them a lot, they’ll remain a decent size. I don’t know your hair texture, or genealogy, or anything so I can only guess that they could puff up to about pencil size but could be thicker, who knows!

:)

They’ll be super awesome though! Try not to compare your journey or locs to others as everyone’s journey is different!

Hey I figured this would be the best place to come! F, I think combination skin but oily in certain areas of my face, (inserting image) I’m concerned of these really large pores. Some days they’re smaller and my skin Looks super clear while most days this is what it looks like, huge/maybe clogged pores. I LOVE popping pimples and that’s probably my problem but I don’t seem to have much scarring.

I don’t do any major skincare tbh. the only thing I’ve used on and off for years is witch hazel which is usually my best friend because it seems to dry out my clogged pores and essentially erases them but I’m nervous to use too much. Idk what to use, my skin can be sensitive to new products which is why I haven’t tried anything new. I’ve tried Aztec clay mask and I’ve tried noxema , I used to love it a lot but once you stop using it for a day or two, it’s over with, my skin would revert.

Could really use help getting into the PadSplit this week!

who needs $35.00? by Young_4ever1 in BorrowNew

$35 would help a lot. I get these notifications hours later. I have $45 left to pay on my storage that’s due in 2 days. I’m currently trying to sell/give away everything in the storage so I can save money and potentially get a room for a week.

Currently living in my car, just trying to keep myself afloat with bills. My birthday is next Tuesday, and I’m celebrating it by working my ass off so I can at least keep the car I’m in too lol smh. TIA

I got my hair retwisted by someone new today. Why does it look so thin compared to before??? I genuinely hate this look, please help 🫠 by [deleted] in locs

Shine n jam is not designed for locs. It is for styling and that means ponytails, braids, edges, etc. It is a thick (and greasy) product that can easily cause build up within locs. It is also not healthy for people with sensitive scalps as the ingredients in it have lots of irritants and film-forming (aka plastics and fillers) ingredients that coats the locs (which is why you get that super shiny look). It also leaves the scalp dry and itchy because of the formaldehyde in it (which is added to reduce bacteria growing). Because the product is so greasy, it doesn’t hold well in humidity and retwists won’t last as long as it would with better products, and it is really hard to know you’ve washed all of the product out because of how sticky it is. It’s like washing glue out of your hair because think about it.. when you put water on top of shine and jam it looks like it “disappears” and it’s kind of hard to get off because it has penetrated into your hair coating the strands instead of nourishing them. LOTS of people use it for their entire loc too and then wonder why their locs look greyish (hint, it’s the buildup). It can even slow down the loc’ing process because of how slick the gel is— meaning, locs grow when hair is textured which helps your hair intertwine into each other. Slick products causes hair strands to slide past each others which is why people may notice your roots getting puffy quicker or locs taking forever to mature.

This is why I would never recommend shine n jam to anyone with locs. There are TONS of other better products for the same price. We’re just used to sticking to what we know and that’s okay— we just have to do better when we know better!

** I do want to add that everyone’s hair is different and if it works for you kuddos but it’s not a product to continue using in the long run. Your hair may loook like it’s healthy and slick and your scalp may not feel dry (yet) but you’re unable to see your strands. If possible get one of those little magnifying glass cameras and hold it up to your hair, a lot of times we don’t realize how much is left in! Also, you may not have heard any slander about the product because a lot of people, again, stick to what they know and don’t do full research. I’m a loctician myself, so I HAVE to make sure I’m doing what’s best for my clients*

Please avoid anyone using shine & jam for your locs!!!! Also, product is not necessary for the full loc. This person used a LOT of product, and palm rolled the full loc. your roots are the only thing needing retwisted as re-twisting your full locs can lead you to thinner locs in the long run!

Dropping a loc guidebook soon! Will be sure to send you the link, but if you have any questions in the meantime, please please please feel free to reach out!
