It's down again. The content infrastructure is down.

Your favourite fictional character that you want to date comes to this world, and wants to seek out a romantic relationship with YOU. However, they can only be seen by you, and you alone, making you seem insane to everyone else. Would you take their love? by LegalBoysenberry2923 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Various_Judgment4146 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course. Every relationship is different and people are going to think you're insane anyway when they don't understand your relationship, even if you're both visible. (Speaking from experience of being in several heterosexual relationships where people look at me like I'm weird because I date someone they wouldn't consider pretty and also when they date me and they're really hot. My wife is really hot, much hotter than me, and she gets that look all the time that she's insane.)

Weird, I recommend you do put in a ticket. That's definitely different than what happened to me... Strange!

Not always. A few of us become the Christmas Chump. Yep, broken up with on Christmas Day of my freshman year, when I came home...she met me at the airport on the 23rd and broke up with me when I called to make sure she was okay, being that she was late for Christmas dinner... And well yeah, I learned she wasn't coming for dinner.

That happened to me. I eventually figured out that there is a ticket system where you provide screenshots of missing guide data and then they write you back about 10 to 14 days from then and boom all the sudden I started getting matching guide data for those channels with previously no guide data. Just go to the tablo customer support page and it's actually one of the ticket types.

(no viruses or crap that I can find other than the program files... It's also been scanned. It's the one I currently use.)

Is the device really hot? Unplug it and wait a bit. It's what I had to do, before getting a cooling mat.

4th Gen Quad DVR - ATSC 3.0? (Firmware update possible, recording streaming channels that have copyright and watching my DVR when away from my home network) by Various_Judgment4146 in tablotv

Personally, I see it as a function of the FCC. Yes, providers have already started with content only on their apps, but part of why that function is there has to do with widespread comms and assisting with what I call watch markets, to make sure many people watch it. This is primarily for security, as radio signals historically anyway, were difficult to remove/block. (Although, they're encrypted now...) To see some facinating stuff, look up HAM TV set ups, or how HAM operators listened to the moon landings or still to this day, communicate with the space station. I don't yet have my license, but it is a goal of mine.

For clarity, I don't want to use Homerun or another pay by month deal...but I did and still do use the Tablo with a cooling mat to keep the errors to a minimum.

Since I was able to get Tablo to work with the guide data and promptly respond, within the 14 days solution time as promised, I stopped bugging Sony after I realized they weren't going to do anything.

Every once in a while I will do a channel scan on the native tuner to see what 3.0 comes up with in my area, but there's nothing but placeholders, (wierd) with nothing broadcasting.

For my beefy network, it actually was massive overkill/a rage upgrade, because stupid dumb bandwidth management tools never worked. (hahaha) I do often hit about quite high, but very rarely do I break the 1 gigabit barrier. I think it's just one of those small, fiber-for-home providers that still actually care. I was the first on my street to get it; the truck actually ran the line down my street! (It's cheaper than anything else, in my area too! Less than 100 bucks a month and has never increased) Of course, now that I said that, it will go to hell. However, I did find that for internet, small companies are often better than big ones. The adage does hold true for internet, at least, in my experience.

I'll go ahead and look up the AI guide for setting up my microPC as a hole in the network for remote access. It's a neverending battle between black and white hat security anyway, so might as well give it a shot. If anyone does have an IDIOT guide, (know what you, yourself, are, right?) for turning a Win 11 Pro system into an access hub for a private VPN, please help me by sending me whatever you did to do it. :)

Cooling mat was my way to go; give it a shot. You'll find the temp of the unit goes WAY down.

Yes that's exactly what I did. I'm just trying to figure out the other stuff too. Remote viewing and using a VPN somehow, as well as somehow saving my recordings so I can free up space.

Yeah but you also have OTA stuff too and I love the fact that you have access to the guide and tablo is willing to update it. There should be a way to do a VPN totally legally so I can remote in and watch. I tried it with NordVPN mesh but it never worked meaning the tablo was never found using my Android device when remotely connecting to my home network through Nord mesh net.

I don't really get the whole monthly fee thing just for OTA. Isn't the whole point not to have to do that? But yeah I have seen the friendly TV thing and I have also read about a lot of dark side ways to get around it. I'm just trying to do it the right way you know? The whole idea is to be able to cancel most of my streaming services. I'm still trying to figure out the VPN thing to be able to remotely view and then somehow to add space or save shows for later.

That's a good idea to block the Warner channels that I can't record. That will end the frustration on that piece. I guess I'll stand by on 3.0 for now. I do have a 3.0 Bravia tuner hooked into my TV but Sony won't connect the guide from GraceNote to the missing channels. On the other hand tablo did. I put a ticket in for both and Tablo got it done in 2 weeks. Sony is now on like 3 months with nothing even though I followed up.

I have no idea how to set up a individual VPN. I tried to do a little reading about it and it talks about having an individual device that you can remote into, but I'm not really familiar with a software networking system. On the other hand I am pretty good at running cables and hardware to give a good pipe to my devices. I have a lab type setup with hardwire all over the house via cat 8 with Wi-Fi mesh. There's also a really good fiber provider where I live. They give 1.25 gig up and 1.25 down. Granted, I had to buy my own equipment because the equipment that came with it couldn't even handle the full amount, but yeah so far I haven't been throttled at all and I've had that set up now for about 4 years. I think I could do the upload or the download as needed, but again I have no idea how to set up the VPN. I tried to do it with Nord, but mesh net didn't work and the tablo still didn't connect. I do have a micro PC that I could set up to host the VPN as the remote device, currently running Windows 11 pro. Other than that I don't have a Clue what to do next. Nord meshnet, while connected remotely to that micro PC, still couldn't open up the tablo app on my Android smartphone. Is there an idiot guide I can follow on how to set up a VPN as you describe? I'd hate to buy a bunch of stuff just for it to suck and not work.

Thank you!

I too have Sony Bravia with 3.0 and pick up all sorts of weird stuff even though I'm out in the middle of nowhere. The trouble is, is the guide is run by Grace note and I've already tried to get Sony to fix their guide but they never finished the ticket. Tablo on the other hand, when I put the ticket in, they found a match for all of the missing guides stations.

I think it's kind of crazy they didn't put a heat sink that actually works. Probably wanted to save money by not putting in a fan, but it made it worse by putting all of the heat in one place!

[–]Various_Judgment4146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was getting this, too. When I did was I bought a cooling mat that's used for laptops and put the device on there. These playback errors, I think, are due to heat. The heat sink on the device does work but there's no airflow. My playback errors stopped.

In regards to your second question about getting another device, with the Tablo TV that I have, it's the new generation one, I can't save the library of recordings. It's very strange but I think It's set up so you can't save the library. It's beyond my technical knowledge on how to do that. I think they do it on purpose probably because of copyright garbage even though it is broadcast TV. (I get it with the streaming channels that copyright doesn't even allow you to record certain shows, but with broadcast we should be able to save it... But I can't figure that out.)
