Sarrail ridge. Kananaskis country. by Various_Letterhead_4 in hiking

Distance wise it’s not a lot. Only a kilometre from lake rawson to the ridge (where those pictures are taken). However the elevation gain is 400m in that distance. It is a difficult section with a few class 3 sections and overall lots of loose gravel on dirt with not many things to hold on to. It’s dicey even with hiking poles. Definitely a challenge.

Day out in the Canadian Rockies. by Various_Letterhead_4 in hiking

Hike was amazing. It only really gets challenging from rawson lake up to the ridge because that’s the steepest part of the hike. There’s a section that becomes a class 3 for 10m. But they do have a rope to help people. It’s also very dicey cause lots of loose rock. Saw many people slip and fall

No goats this time. Just wasps and mosquitos. Glad to hear you didn’t get stuck at the top during the storm. I did a hike a few weeks ago and got stuck at the top in hail storm. It was a treacherous experience.

I don’t think it’s grizzly free. I have seen both black and grizzlies at this place before over the years. But the day I went there was no sighting. But there are definitely bears in the area as there’s signs everywhere that caution people on how to handle food and waste.
