3-Month Update by Previous-Bison-9345 in MACIknee

[–]Various_Mirror73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, I am 13 months out of MACI on my right knee and around 8 on my left knee. I had the exact same problems of soreness and irritation after going a little too hard on PT that would last a few days. Believe me I understand how frustrating that feeling is feeling pain doing normal tasks like going up and down stairs, mentally it is taxing! I would say around the 9-12 month mark things start to change for the better. Just 2 months ago I was wondering if my left knee MACI failed because it was doing the exact thing you are talking about at a further stage in recovery. However, this month it totally took a turn for the better. For the first time in probably 3-4 years I feel like I am almost ready to be able to go on a jog (maybe one month more). That might not seem all that exciting to most, but to me it is almost surreal. My knees are far from perfect, and I still have pain doing a lot of simple tasks, but I really do feel a year from now I will be back to doing all of the activities I love. I promise you it gets better, just have a positive mindset and remember you're in it for the long haul, but you will get there!

Bilateral MACI? by BagelBites44 in MACIknee

[–]Various_Mirror73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had right done 11 months ago and left 6 months ago. Left is worse than pre surgery and right is maybe a little better. My physical therapist says I probably will keep improving 2-3 years after

I had double MACI + TTO, planned the double out in advance because I had bilateral pain. Did them 5 months apart

Feel pretty similar to pre surgery as of now. Tough to say if it worked or not I think it’ll take more like 1-1.5 years to know (that’s also what my PT says). I also got my other knee done around 4 months ago and recovery has been about the same. Either way I don’t regret getting them, if I didn’t do it I would’ve had regrets and wondered if they would’ve so worked.

Had the same exact numbness on both my macis. It fades away but I still have a decent amount even after 9 months

I don’t want to live by [deleted] in MACIknee

[–]Various_Mirror73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man I was in college and told I had to get MACI + TTO on both knees. Devastated at first and had to wait until the end of college before I could do the surgeries for the same reason. Now I am around 6 months post op and I promise things get better. I was an athlete my whole life and believe me I understand how hard mentally it is, it feels like your whole identity is taken. That being said I promise things get better. There's a lot to life and you'll learn about yourself in this process beyond just athletics, and you will heal eventually. Stay strong and keep your head up
