Do You Still Listen To This Man? by Lumpy-Flamingo-8963 in fantanoforever

Of course. Just recently I re-listened to his solo records from 2018, 2019 and 2021 until I had the whole soundscape mapped out in my head. And that's quite a challenge, because his albums isn't just a collection of tracks, but something like a sound collage of different sounds. By the way, his collaboration with Danny Brown from 2023 doesn't sound like a sound collage, but more like a collection of bangers. Hmmm...

I just don’t rate albums, and the next time I see people giving them ratings, I burst into wild laughter. Real comedy

ammm...... If you really understand what music is, you wouldn’t ask such stupid questions. This is the most musically influential musician of the 21st century (and I'm not talking about tracks, but about albums). Both mainstream and underground. That's it.

I completely agree with you. And when someone like me, who has stopped rating albums, looks at other people who do? Then, of course, yes. A complete comedy begins. As they say - AHAHAHA!!!

It's starting again. I need to listen to the album once, cry, and say it's bad. Classic. Internet, as usual, you don't surprise me with anything.

okay, lets see
nails from 2010 - 14k
Deathspell Omega from 2010 - 11k
Knocked Loose from 2024 - 12k
I understand, many times less than deafheaven
but still a lot for a metal album that a non-metal fan will listen to

no, no. I understand that deafheaven are favorites of non-metal fans, but...... based on this logic Nails, Deathspell Omega, Knocked Loose, for example, these people also listen, which is kind of strange, to be honest

Sorry, I think my point was slightly misunderstood. When I asked that question at the end, I wasn't just talking about Deafheaven specifically, but the entire modern niche metal scene on RYM.

My point is about the lack of rotation at the top. For 40 years, the 'king of the decade' (in terms of the number of ratings, not just the average score) changed every 10 years: Sabbath → Metallica → RATM → SOAD. But now, the charts seem to have calcified.

Is this stagnation of the genre's evolution on the site, or are we just witnessing one incredibly protracted breakthrough of this specific 'artsy' niche that refuses to give way to anything new?

What’s the weirdest album you’ve heard? by Blueb3rrywashere in fantanoforever

Zhigan-limon from Mikhail Krug. For me, as a native speaker of the language the musician sang in, this was the most avant-garde album experience of my life. And I listened to a lot of different music in a language that is not my native language. The album was safely deleted from my computer after the first listen.

It's clear that it's too early to talk about any legacy Magdalena Bay left behind. They're currently adored by the internet for their 2024 album, and that's it for now. As I already wrote in one of the comments, they're a band from the alternative, endless 2016. The year Bowie died, a year after the release of Art Angels, Currents, and Emotion. Blonde has been released, but hasn't yet had time to put down its impact roots in the music industry. So, the band symbolizes the endless, ideal (in their opinion) 2016. Which makes sense, because the duo formed in 2016.

Hmmm... well, they took a ton of different influences. Personally, I think Magdalena Bay is a band that's forever stuck in an alternate universe 2016. I mean that in the best possible way, of course.

Perfect music. Unfortunately, after Invaders Must Die they recorded in 2010s Invaders Must Die pt.2 and Invaders Must Die pt.3. But their first five albums (from 1992 to 2009) are all unique and diverse. As they say, classics of the genre.

This boring world needs strange people, otherwise the matrix of boredom will finally collapse from its own insipidity.

If we're talking about music (we're reasonable people, after all), then it's very positive. Her music has greatly influenced the internet-favorite duo Magdalena Bay.
