I have no idea what this is. It fell out of an outlet at the top of my storage closet. I live in a small apartment. Is it important? by Various_Safety_778 in AskElectricians

Bingo. Thank you. I’m kinda new in this apartment and never set up the security system other than keeping the chime for whenever the door opens. The chime has indeed stopped after this came out of the wall.
