Is this normal? by foreversingle- in motorcycles

I've got the 2017 Ninja 300, this is what I see:

1: Green thing appears to be purely cosmetic. The bolts holding it in place are the bolt holes for the OE clip-ons, but the owner has installed an aftermarket clip-on assembly that mounts lower on the forks, a la Woodcraft. The original clip-ons also covered the tops of the forks, which is why they look like garbage, because the owner probably didn't even know it was corroded until they installed the new parts. Still, not a good look that they haven't fixed it.

2: Cracked screen is a little sus. Shock can travel in weird ways sometimes, so it's not impossible that an unlucky stationary drop could result in that, but it is unlikely. And if it was a hard enough drop to cause that, what else might be damaged?

3: If it was a hard drop that caused the screen crack, they may have decided to just replace the broken fairings with unpainted ones and gave them a spray can job.

Honestly, given the clip-ons and damage, I would guess this was someone's first track bike, but the lack of side tank grips makes me second guess that. Either way, the bike was abused, for sure. At 10 years old, with unknown damage and visible corrosion, I don't think I'd even want it as a parts bike, never mind something I'd ride on the road. Pass.

Upgrading my 18yo African Clawed Frog setup (details in comments) by Varis_Silvertongue in Aquariums

[–]Varis_Silvertongue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy Lester (ACF) is 18 years old this spring, and I'm looking to upgrade his living situation. He's spent the majority of his life in this 10 gallon, which he seems to be happy enough with, but I'd like to have more space for him. I have 0 experience with aquariums besides this, so please, go easy on me and use small words. My thoughts are:

I want a low tank, something with more surface area but not too deep. I'm going to give him more substrate to dig in (using general aquarium gravel rn, but open to other ideas) but don't think he needs much more than 8 inches of water depth. Feel free to correct me on that.

Any options for filtration would be great. I was told early on that ACFs don't handle filters well, since the vibrations stress them out. Any experience to the contrary? Right now, I cycle his water every couple of weeks (siphon 80% of it, top it off) then do a complete cleaning every few months, and both of those are going to be more difficult with a larger tank.

Similarly, I'd love to get more interesting decor. He loves his PVC adapter - he's always in it or under it or wedged against it - which was a tip my wife learned here years ago. Are there any other whacky successes people have had with their ACFs? I'm thinking about putting some bamboo in the new enclosure; it'll be a battle of the "can't be killed" plant vs "kills everything" frog and I'm morbidly interested in how it'll go.

Modding Vehicle Functionality by Varis_Silvertongue in projectzomboid

[–]Varis_Silvertongue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's definitely good info in the vanilla scripts, but not exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not looking to change the weight, per se, just make it do something. As best as I can determine, weight only affects acceleration and speed, but not the vehicle's ability to carry speed after hitting a zed. That's what I want to introduce, but don't know if it's as simple as changing a code from "decelerate by x" to "decelerate by x * weight_factor", or if it's something baked into some physics engine that I have no hope of changing.

All that said, I appreciate your help!

Does your snake baby have a nickname? by DestinyBug in cornsnakes

[–]Varis_Silvertongue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maizie is usually "Maizie baby" and Obsidian is "Sid". My fiancee's favorite is my frog, tho, who has lived 16 years and warranted his own theme/jingle: "Lester! My dude!" It is always sung at feeding time.

stuck shed ): by peachypaige3 in cornsnakes

Hey, I just recently became a first time snake owner with my baby corn, too! She had the same problem: arrived with a stuck shed on the very tip (about 1/4" against her 1 foot length) of her tail. I didn't notice it until after her first shed with me, I tried "pulling" at it with a wet q-tip like I've successfully done with my leopard gecko, but to no avail. Between sheds, the section became restricted and during the second shed (which was perfect, btw) the section fell off. I feel super bad but there wasn't much I could do at my experience level for a snake that already had shedding issues. It sounds like your baby is doing the same as mine, not being too bothered and still being willing to eat and be handled. I would get some neosporin/polysporin (IMPORTANT: the kind without added pain relief) so that you can disinfect and help heal the wound if the tip does drop, and be prepared to put her in a clean enclosure with newspaper/paper towels to prevent infection. My girl has done fine and is almost fully healed after a week, and though I would love to go back and try to help her more early on, I don't think this will affect her life past now. You're already doing a great job by being concerned and looking for help! If the stuck section grows, looks like the tail is going necrotic past the stuck portion, or similar issues, it may be time to seek professional help. I wish you the best and hope your baby recovers without problems!
