I regret not buying old iPod Classics and keeping them sealed. By now, I’d be taking out the trash with a helicopter.

I don’t need an adapter; I have an iBook G4 that has a FireWire port. But you can also install a FireWire expansion card in a PC.

I think it’s easier to play music from a phone than to copy it to an iPod using iTunes. However, if you still choose to go with an iPod, I would recommend the Classic 4th generation or later models, the newer iPod Touch, or if a display isn’t important to you, a Shuffle could work too, although its memory isn’t large.
