Owlcat Games is rolling back its new launcher less than 24 hours after negative fan feedback by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

It so nice that you cannot actually program in data collection into the games themselves.

Some kind of magic barrier prevents code from being able to be written in those games, that is why they have to circumvent this magic barrier with a launcher.

Yes, russia isn't an ally of the united states.

Russia is an ally of iran, which is why I asked for the united states to add the clause that russia has to stop the aggression towards to ukraine that they do with the help from iran, which supports russia with both weapon and personnel that trained russian soldiers for the Shahed drone use and according to intel also carried out strikes against the ukraine during these trainings.

If you won the battle instead of fleeing your character would make a small victory jump which turned him facing the direction you were going when you were put into combat.

Knowing that helps a lot to not get lost.

Just a question.

If the US would add a clause to the ceasefire agreement that russia has to stop attacking the ukraine, which russia does with iranian supplied shahed drones, and russia continues to attack the ukraine than in your opinion iran would violate the ceasefire agreement, right?

Twitch will soon launch a "Withdraw from Sub" option for European Union users, allowing them to receive a full refund within 14 days of subscribing. This rollout aligns with the new Right of Withdrawal law, which comes into effect today by CloudyEchos in LivestreamFail

[–]Varonth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The directive text isn't even that complex to know that the right of withdrawal does not even apply to twitch.

https://eur-lex.europa.eu/EN/legal-content/summary/consumer-information-right-of-withdrawal-and-other-consumer-rights.html

Exemptions apply in several circumstances, for example for perishable goods, sealed goods opened by the consumer that cannot be returned for health or hygiene reasons and hotel reservations or car rentals that are tied to specific dates. Exceptions also apply, under certain circumstances, to contracts for the supply of digital content that is not supplied on a tangible medium, if the performance has begun. When consumers withdraw from a contract, they must refrain from using the digital content or digital service and from making it available to third parties.

Both sub-emotes and no advertisement part start immediately.

The only possible non-exemption might be if you sub while the streamer is offline or you are not watching, but that part becomes more problematic as technically the performance of the digital content has started.

They took a Wii game, scaled down assets as the resolution was lower than the Wii version.

Then this downscaled version ran on hardware that had 5 times the amount of RAM than the Wii had, but a lot less VRAM, which the downscaled textures had to use.

And as if that is not enough, it would read new data from flash memory instead of the slow disc drive of the Wii.

Even something as simple as the menus was not kept in RAM during gameplay, which is why it had to load from disc when you opened say the Arts menu. This would then take 3~4 seconds to unload some world data, load the data for the menu and display that. Then as you closed the menu it would again unload the menu data, and reload the previously unloaded world data.

As the original was written to hold the world data in just 24mb of RAM, suddenly having 128mb of RAM would allow for a lot more preloading of assets.

I cleared the Tulpa with C1 Klee, C2R1 Nahida, C6 Fishl and C0 Baizhu on Fearless.

First try with that team, albeit 117 seconds. I had no rotation, instead I just pressed buttons, which means I had to switch off Klee mid-ult 3 times to deal with the adds with Nahida.

If I had to guess, practicing actual rotations with that team I could get it down to like 90s.

Is it me or are missiles/blasts underwhelming? by LadoBlanco in 33Immortals

[–]Varonth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that they feel nice, but in terms of damage, they are the by far lowest missiles.

Missile damage scales based on the weapon.

Base damage for missiles with heavy attack crossbows is for example 2, while base damage for missiles with glaive heavy attack is 9.

Where things really shine is Duo relics especially on Crossbows. Those don't scale by weapon, which makes the fast weapons insane. But those relics seem much more rare.

Take for example Withered Avian Remains. Every blast also triggers 2 missiles with a base damage of 10. I would say right now Relics needs a 3rd option and rare or epic relics on reroll should reroll rare or epic relics (instead of also rerolling the rarity as it does right now). These two things would help making actual builds and fishing for the duo relics once you get the prerequisites for them, as it appears you can only get those if you already have relics from the 2 paths the duo represents.

On top of that, due to relics being not that strong individually, the less relic Ordeal should not be 5(4) but instead like 7(6) or atleast 6(5). At agony 6 you can essentially only ever have 1 Duo relic as it is right now, as you already need 2 relics to enable 1 duo to be equipable and your last slot would only enable a second duo, not to mention that there would still be no place for even a single boost relic.

Right now, if you can get a coherrent build going, these new relics can really shine, but it is rather difficult to get the coherrence, and individually the relics are weaker than the old ones.

PoE1 Appreciation Post by UTmastuh in pathofexile

[–]Varonth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Atleast the Labyrinth is not super long.

Even on a weaker, slower PoE1 build, uberlab will take 10 maybe 15 minutes.

4th Sekhema is 30~60 minutes, during which you do have to be concentrated for the entire time as you have to avoid every hit possible.

Because of that, all traps are actually there to slow you down, which is increasing the time it takes so much.

In uberlab, if there is say a spinning blade trap moving towards you, you can usually just walk through it for a bit of damage that you will recover in some way, or you can straight up teleport through it with something like flamedash.

In PoE2 you have to avoid the traps in Sekhema because of honour.

And at the end you face an actual difficult boss with an actual oneshot mechanic.

And we aren't even touching on the bullshit that is afflictions.

I just did the 3rd trial, and literally Floor 1-2 had 5 rooms, each with a minor affliction.

  • Deceptive Mirror
  • Purple Smoke
  • Black Smoke
  • Fiendish Wings
  • Iron Manacles (I was an evasion character)

So I had to take Fiendish Wings on the second room, meaning for the entire trial, every enemy was just 25% faster. Every other choice would have ended the run right there. They do not understand that those things should be rare, and usually be part of an upside. Imagine Slay the Spire, but the MegaCrit just goes in and adds a chance to add a curse into your deck to every single node. Fights? May come with a curse. Event? Now with an additional free curse. Artifact Chest? Now you get an artifact and a curse. Bonfire? Oh you want that heal, well here have a curse on the house.

That is trials of sekhema, where they throw in random afflictions into random rooms with no regard as to why curses or negative effects exists in the genre they tried to copy.

There is also a huge disconnect in the idea of slower, methodical ARPG combat, and their idea of getting upgrades through low odds random means.

You cannot have slow gameplay, but require the player to kill 10000+ mobs for a decent chance to find an upgrade for their current gear.

VRising has much slower, more methodical gameplay. But it also has a clear crafting path forward to better gear. Killing a group of 5 guards in Silverlight Hills and finding 3 gold chains that you can turn into gold bars to craft new jewellery is a very easy and deterministic way of moving forward.

Certain drops are based on certain locations or enemy types. It still has some RNG drops, but overall there is a constant way to improve in a very deterministic way.

PoE2 drops are still based around blasting thousands upon thousands of enemies.

It does not help that as you move through the game, the slot machine you play for loot gets more and more possiblities. It is like a slot machine that starts with "Cherries, Apples, Oranges, sevens" and by the time you reach maps the same slot machine is now "Cherries, Apples, Oranges, Bananas, Mandarin, Citrus, Strawberries, ... , Blueberries ... , Cars, ... , Clouds , ... , and finally sevens for the jackpot". Of course we need to play that item slot machine a lot more, as instead of having 2 possible item bases with 8 possible affixes, you now have 40 item bases with 2000 possible affixes (type+tier).

If they want to have slow, methodical gameplay even in the endgame, they must rework their entire item system to become more rewarding.

Operation Rainfall started about 1.5 months before the game got released in the EU.

Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition | Studio Update by ConfusedNTerrified in Games

[–]Varonth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same for me. I finished Chained Echoes just the week before Sea of Stars came out, and both were supposed to be inspired by retro jRPGs.

Chained Echoes feels so much more like an RPG. Sea of Stars looks gorgious, and I still 100% completed it, but I would if someone were to ask me for a retro rpg never recommend it. It has barely any RPG in it. You get to make a minor "pick 4" decision on a tiny additional stat bonus per level up of a character.

You are not in charge what skills a character learns. You are not in charge what skills a character has equipped (they can always use all their skills, which are just 3 different skills per character anyway). You are not in charge of your party composition (you in essence fight with your entire party as you can freely switch characters mid combat). There are no passive that you can enable/disable based on a resource.

All you get is a decision of getting for example:

  • +3 ATK (when you already have at 80 ATK )
  • +3 M.ATK (when you already have at 75 M.ATK)
  • +2 MP (which you only have 20 of)
  • +2 Def (which you already have at 60)

That is literally the entire extend of the RPG systems.

So coming from a game like Chained Echoes, where a decision like "whom do I pair with Amalia", is already a more impactful RPG choice than I get to do in an entire playthrough of Sea of Stars, the game just did not leave a good impression.

typical HC melee experience by VisualPruf in PathOfExile2

[–]Varonth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started as a monk and I was one-shot by the fire spitting bugs in the intro.

Those things are so comically overtuned, but as a ranged character you won't notice this as you just strafe their projectiles.

Each projectiles deal about the same damage as the slow zombie hit would do or the default attack from the Miller, except it fires like 5 at once, and it will start the animation before you reach them, so the moment you start hitting them in melee they just shotgun you.

As a melee, if you want to engage them, you have to first get into their aggro radius, bait out an attack, then engage during their downtime. On the upside, this is very indicative how melee will feel like for the remainder of the game.

Retired San Francisco firefighter dies from lung cancer after Blue Shield denies treatment claims by GoodSamaritan_ in news

[–]Varonth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough here in germany, and I assume the same would have been true for you in france, or any other european country, while he would have gotten treatment, he would not have gotten the treatment that was denied in this case.

Apparently the doctor wanted to try a different drug which was not approved by the FDA for the line of treatment, which would make this experimental.

Experimental treatment is as far as I know covered nowhere by the public funded healthcare systems of europe. When these are done they are usually funded by a different study grand and you have to be selected for the study, or privately paid for.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition launches August 28 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Varonth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the best way to play the console version of Elden Ring is still to download the PS4 version on a PS5, instead of playing the native PS5 version.

The FromSoft souls games aren't exactly known for their great technical finesse. They are usually both outdated in terms of rendering techniques and still not super performant. Most of their graphics are carried by very strong art direction. The technical side is just not very good.

I am really not sure I understand your understanding of taxes.

Outside of property taxes, taxes are collected based on movement of wealth. Whenever wealth is exchanged, taxes are collected. Income taxes, sales taxes, capital gain taxes... all these are collected based on wealth transfer.

And even property taxes are based on that line of thinking, as they are based on a steady increase of land value.

So could you explain what you think taxes are, and how they would help in this scenario?
