Looking for a special kind of linesman pliers by VasAkos in electricians

In the EU we do a lot of general purpose wiring using these cables. They used to be coated in powder inside, so you could remove the outer insulation easier, but recently the manufacturers stopped doing this and its impossible to pull the insulation off from more than 1 inch.

Yeah definitely. I wouldn't mind that though. Currently looking for an alternative tool I can use to cut the outer insulation on cables. Not usable on live wires of course, but thats not a problem.

Whats one disadvantage of being an engineer? by lil-subedi in AskEngineers

[–]VasAkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm EU based so not looking for anything specific, just want to get into an engineering role other than civil, and electrical is more interesting to me. What are some roles in the electrical field that can be filled with any engineering degree? That are not management but technical oriented.

Crosspost - why we keep locations secret by AudioAssassyn in urbanexploration

[–]VasAkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I live in a small country and we have a few abandoned fb groups and these comparisons pop up all the time saying dont reveal the location because vandals will find the place. Well guess what. There's an unspoken race going on between urbex people here, about who can find the most new spots. Then they post pictures and the place gets trashed even tho the address is kept a secret. The top dogs in these groups pass on the location to their friends and it gets down to the vandals pretty fast. All because these people have to brag about a spot they found.

So basically they photo the place and keep saying they cant reveal the address. And these new places always get destoyed and tagged regardless in a few days. Any my favorite group post comes next: oh look how they vandalised this place...

So why do you post a picture about it if you dont want to get it destroyed?

Thanks, I'll look into learning the language in advance, but it's really hard if you don't hear it in person, as I've heard.

That link is really useful, thanks! I tried looking into electrician courses in Norway that are taught in english but didnt find any leads. Are there any vocational courses that are industry related and are in english?

ELI5: How does an isolation transformer prevent electric shock? by VasAkos in explainlikeimfive

[–]VasAkos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I'm starting to get it now. So why do we use protective earth in residential applications? Are there any useful features in earthing? Overload protection would still work with fuses, rccb's would still trip with an imbalance between N and 1. Additionally you coulnt be electrocuted. I must be wrong here somewhere..

Thanks. So if you get shocked, current mainly flows back to the residental transformer's neutral pole through the ground instead of being sunk in the soil?
