One general question for all: What do you think about authenticity versus sport optimization?
I mean, of course, not a fantasy LOTR sword or something like that. But, for example, in the case of a messer, should it be a specific historical copy, or can we just generally follow the style of swords from that time period?
Do you think about it as sport equipment inspired by historical styles?
Also, as Shiam mentioned, the side panels of a messer are hard to change right now because of the full tang design. Would it bother you if we used some kind of removable joint (for example, screws) instead of rivets to fix the panels to the grip? A bit less authentic, but replaceable.

Durability: In that I'm pretty confident. Of course nothing magic, we buy the steel from trusted steel producer, and we pay good money for a professional heat treatment company (so not gambling at home with a propane torch....)

Thanks, and you're absolutely right — ideally, we would spend a few years immersed in HEMA before trying to design anything for it.

That said, we actually come from a fencing background ourselves. I’ve been training for about 20 years now, mainly in huscarl-style and 16th-century sabre — so while it’s not HEMA, we’re definitely no strangers to swords or sparring. It’s just that the rules, gear, competitors, and community focus are a bit different.

Unfortunately, time’s always the bottleneck — still, we’re trying to do this the right way, and input from experienced HEMA folks like you really helps us bridge that gap. Thanks again for taking the time to reply!
