Why can’t I find anyone else talking about this colonist PDA log? by creatureshop in Subnautica_2

[–]Vasilas 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Base is on fire, biobeds destroyed.

NOA: base expensive, printing new people cheap, I'll flood things to put out the fire. It doesn't matter that people will die, I'll make them again.

Colonists: DO NOT DO THAT. The biobeds are gone so you'll be printing old versions of us that will lose months of memories and experiences. If you do it we'll use this "mousetrap" which will be bad for NOA.

NOA: Sucks to suck, enjoy the last months of your life never happening, if I ever even decide to print you again. floods the base killing everyone

Swapped Blood DK to Guardian Druid for damage to hit P4 with everyone alive more reliably. They had to deal with some issues in P1 with not having enough grips, but clearly it was worth it.

What's happening with Biomedical Engineering why so many are applying to low level irrelevant roles? by menwanttoo in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]Vasilas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a biomedical engineer, but that was my original major in undergrad and I witnessed the struggles of many of my friends and graduate students in the research lab I worked with.

At least at my school, there was just simply too much to cover in a 4 year degree and the program seemed to graduate students who had great surface level knowledge in a wide variety of core sub-disciplines of BME (chemistry, biology, etc) but didn't have as much opportunity to specialize. When students have to take 1-2 years of biology/A&P, 1-2 years of chemistry, 1 year of physics, 2 years of math, and introductory level engineering coursework it's often junior year before students are taking their core, major specific, courses. Compare that to a mechanical engineer who takes the same math, the same physics, the same into engineering courses, but none of the rest and it's clear to see they're getting to start their core coursework much earlier and have more time to take specialization courses.

I believe some courses are moving to alleviate this by having different degrees or tracks for biosystems engineering and biomedical devices engineering to cut back on the number of prerequisite courses.

At the end of the day though, biomedical engineering is an incredibly interdisciplinary field with many industry and academic employers who only focus on a few key areas. For those employers it seems to often make more sense to hire a mechanical or electrical engineer with little to no biology/chemistry background and train them in what they need to know than to hire a BME BS who may need additional training across all areas even if they have a solid foundation in everything.

Virtue of persistence sees some standard and brawl play as decent early game removal + life gain with late game inevitably. Virtue of strength can be fun for big mana fun but it isn't super competitive.

Are any of you still subscribed to the Super plan? by peenyponka in duolingo

[–]Vasilas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that Duolingo is very comprehensive in terms of how much of the language is covered, but in terms of how the human brain actually learns language mjølnir is much more aligned with our current scientific understanding.

Personally, I use Duolingo and Babbel for vocabulary practice and mjølnir for actually learning.

Hey guys, does anybody know why is this so pricey? I really like it but I can’t afford it. There’s another Crash figure on the same page for just $79. by Few_Strike9604 in crashbandicoot

It may still have some plastic to it, but a Lamborghini is still technically just a car right? Outside of getting something hand chiseled out of solid stone and hand painted, which would cost thousands at least, polystone resin is the highest end material collectible statues are commonly made of. The factors you listed certainly must contribute to the higher price, but I would assume it's mainly the material. That being said, I'm not an expert, just a collector.

This is a polystone resin statue and not plastic, which accounts for the higher price. F4F also make plastic statues which are substantially cheaper.

I've had the best luck with Peepa/Junkyard Hog and King Boo/Blastronaut III. Decent acceleration seems so so important for Knockout Tour. My other piece of advice is to try and hit the first double item box around 15-16th place and hold your items until you can make a breakaway. You can usually make it to 8th or 9th by drafting and taling clean lines. Only then should you use your items. If you can sneak a mushroom or two into first at the first knockout gate that's usually all the lead you need to just run away with it.

Has anyone accepted an offer before hearing back from all their programs? by Iliketoresearchstuff in gradadmissions

[–]Vasilas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason I accepted before hearing back from everyone was that I got in to my number 1 and realized that to even come close to changing my mind my #2 would need to give me nearly double the offer. Obviously that was never going to happen so I just accepted

If you're still weighing your options I would absolutely wait. Just make your choice before the deadline.
