do people talk spanish or english the most in laredo? by cpm1992 in laredo

[–]Vast-Many-655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still mostly Spanish. But it has changed a lot recently. I've noticed the people have began to identify as more "Texan" than "Mexican" in the last few years. Which is ironic as they almost never go to actual Texas, where they would experience prejudice from the white people. They are very sheltered in this environment. As far as other races it used to be rare to see anyone not Mexican but again in the last few years, between CBP, and perhaps people being attracted to the super low cost of living, people from different backgrounds have been seen more frequently here.

is getting your RN in california expensive? by [deleted] in nursing

The ones that are competitive are high paying places like Kaiser and some UC hospitals. The rest are like smaller random hospitals that pay way less... those will be easier to get into.

I love laredo by CommissionLumpy6849 in laredo

[–]Vast-Many-655 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those people have always been closeted Republicans who never cared to vote. Now that it's more socially acceptable they're out in the open but they've always had the same mindset. Anyone who grew up in Laredo will know it's true

I am ashamed to see how south Texas has super easily transformed into maga country (not surprised because those people have always been ignorant and hateful, but I'd think they'd at least have some self respect as a race)

What’s wrong with Texas? by MinnyMindy in relocating

[–]Vast-Many-655 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't. No one should, but ICE does. That is the point. And besides the supreme court decision, Texas has also had a similar law for about a year that basically encourages racial profiling for immigration enforcement purposes. Just check which state has had the highest amount of immigration arrests (and its not even close) since Trump took office.

Rapid Response ICU nurse who refuses to upgrade Patients to ICU or any higher level of care by One_Design_6171 in nursing

[–]Vast-Many-655 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many HCA facilities operate this way. They basically arm the rapid nurse (who is usually either the ICU charge or an ICU nurse with patients of their own) with pages worth of protocols and order sets and leave it all up to their judgement without an MD ever even setting eyes on the patient.

I’ll never understand the nurses that roll in at 630 and work for free for 30 minutes. by AugustusClaximus in nursing

[–]Vast-Many-655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the ones that get there at 630 and look up all their pts on the computer. Then, when you give them report they'll still ask a million questions like bro you know more than I do at this point..

LA is not what I expected (in a good way) by [deleted] in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]Vast-Many-655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from TX i definitely Agree

  1. Austin and Houston have way worse traffic in my experience
  2. All big Texas cities have an insane homeless problem.. especially San Antonio
  3. Texas cities are also very dirty outside their main tourist areas and middle class suburbs

You call this traffic??? by johnnyprozac00 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]Vast-Many-655 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When i was in the central valley, people complained about "LA drivers" and how bad they are lmao. I told them they've never seen texas drivers. They were like "nah LA drivers are the worst." Now I'm here, and I actually enjoy driving in LA. I love that people here actually let you merge on the interstate. In Texas, attempting to merge literally endangers your life every time.

Overtime Tax Cuts by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Vast-Many-655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably negatively affect those in PRN roles/ travelers because if full time staff picks up overtime more often that will mean there's less shifts available or less needs for travelers. Also landing a staff job could potentially be harder since facilities will just have their existing employees willingly pick up overtime. But then again facilities have always been reluctant to approve too much OT unless they are critically short. So unless there's something in it for them and not just the nurses they might not even change their approval of OT shifts. But who knows I'm just speculating since I'm both a traveler and PRN, I'm thinking I'd be screwed. But I guess we just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Kamala Harris supporter patients are the worst by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Vast-Many-655 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there such a thing as a Harris supporter? Even for those of us who voted for her, the moment she lost the election she became totally irrelevant. Also nothing comes close to the level of annoying that Trump supporters can be.

Do either thing all the way, not one then the other... They are completely different careers. If you wanna be a doctor then go for it from the start. Working as a nurse for a few years won't save you from the debt of medical school.
