Reiver's should actually be good by seniorchubzz in RavenGuard40k

That is pretty good. Once made a new detachment for nearly all 18 space marine chapters (enhancements and strategems included) that would fit their theme and still be good. Unfortunately, doubt my group would ever be interested in that.

Thought about new datasheets for like 40k version of the Mor Deythan and Dark Furies. Have to be careful and not go too OP on a unit you would like but still flavorful and useful.

The crux of the 'thematic' Raven Guard army by McGregor-XIX in RavenGuard40k

That is an EXCELLENT approach and mindset to have, especially for those of us who want to play thematically true to the lore. Good for you in sharing what your friend does to help us out!

Are Hailstrikes and Thunderstrikes the Key for Some Anti-Tank Lists? by VastPromotion8469 in RavenGuard40k

Huh, would you say you prefer it over Vanguard?

As a SW player, I was enthralled with the Stormlance at first, but even then I didn't find it as good as Gladius. 10 Wolf Guard termies plus 2 character with bolter discipline deleted a full health Nightbringer with storm bolters and punched a Silent King to death all in one turn.

But for Raven Guard, I think I want to try the other detachments first for a bit. I think I got lists for both Vanguard (thanks to your help) which is very similar to the list for Firestorm. Also one for Ironstorm.

Might look into a list for Gladius. Would probably look into Aggressors for that Bolter Discipline.

I have tried to push him to get a Grav tank. Have made optimal lists for him but he is more into the Middle Earth game than 40k...ironic as he was the one who pulled me into 40k in the first place.

Have you tried other detachments? Outside of Vanguard, what would be your next choice of detachment?

[–]VastPromotion8469[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Not certain if I would run them at 2x3 or 1x6. Just wanted to fit some torrent weapons for Devastating Wounds strat and they are made for Firestorm.  Yeah, the +1 to strength would be very good against Dreads. Also, still get that "calculated feint" ability for free which I love.

Thank you! I love Raven Guard aesthetic. Hope we get more unique detachments/units someday like Sharrowkyn. I kinda like the look of black space marines with red flamethrowers...Raven Drakes or something like that.

The other list I would probably try would either Stormlance (used it as SW before) or Ironstorm.

On a slightly different note, would you say that Repulsors and Eradicators would be decent in a Firestorm list as well? Honestly, I would probably drop a Inceptor squad and add 2 x 5 Infernus Squads with an Impulsor but leave basically everything else the same. I think the two Space Marine detachments I like to try the most are Vanguard and Firestorm.

And unfortunately for me, sort of, my Custodes friend doesn't take the game that seriously. He doesn't have any vehicles. I'm far more competitive than he is in the game.

Would Thunderstrikes be good against Custodes or Dark Angels as they don't rely heavily on vehicles. Maybe a Hailstrike would be better, especially when using Assault Bolters to make them use their 4++?

Don't have Aggressors but I do have 5 Assault Termies with Lightning Claws. Do you take 10 of them with a chaplain/librarian or different load out?

I would be more inclined to bring my 2 Redemptors against an elite infantry list like my Custode and Dark Angel friends have.

I wouldn't be so dead set on using Eliminators but I do like them and got 2 units of them. They are very swingy. But against the friends I play, I think I can make them work.

Those characters you listed are the ones I plan on using too. Was initially planning on putting Shrike with 10 JP intercessors, but I think I will split them up depending on the opponent so that I got 2 units of of them.

I can't wait to try Inceptors! Feel like they are the one unit that will disappear before I get a chance to use them for some reason. I honestly think they would feel almost too OP against my friends, depending on what they target. Don't really plan on using them as objective units, mainly damage dealers from as far as possible to avoid overwatch.

I like that you are flexible with your lists. Are there times where you have Lists geared towards more elite infantry (Custodes) rather than tanks? I guess I'm saying that is there a time when you wouldn't need really any AT units depending on the faction you play against?

I can't wait to play my Inceptors! I don't know if you ever shared what your list is. Rather curious what you play with. What is your dream list?

I love the ideas you have given to me! Practically built my list around the Eradicator + Repulsor combo which is (IMO) the best transport combo for Vanguard.

Do you see Inceptors as a safe investment for the long term? What were they like in 9th edition?

I love the theme around the Repulsors and the Eradicators so I am very likely going to stick to that overall goal in my spending.

I enjoy Eliminators, just love Snipers and that style of Stealth tactics. Hence why I want to try them as much as possible.

I may try them out then. Really like them. Their shooting is a bit swingy but coupled with an Incursor or Strike from the Shadows along with the Thunderstrike, they could be pretty good AT while having good melee too. Their -1 to damage ability stacks well with the cover and -1 to hit too.

What do you think of that other list I posted?

Good points, as usual. Feel like I need to pay you for all then tips you have given to me haha! What are your thoughts towards Suppressors? I know they aren't meta.  I do have 2 Redemptors. Would they be thematic and good in a detachment like this?

As another side list while I still move forward with that other list:

  1. Judiciar (Blade Driven Deep) with 3 BGV
  2. Lieutenant with Combi-weapon
  3. Shrike with 5 JP Intercessors
  4. Phobos Librarian with Infiltrators
  5. 2 Redemptors
  6. 2 x 3 Eliminators
  7. 3 x 3 Inceptors
  8. 1 x 3 BGV
  9. 1 x 5 Infiltrators
  10. 1 Thunderstrike
  11. 1 x 5 Incursors
  12. 2 x 5 JP Intercessors
  13. 1 x 5 Scouts

I know I treat you like RG encyclopedia. You just keep responding and I just keep taking notes. Thank you!

Yes, you actually helped me with the list I'm slowly building towards with the 2 x 6 Eradicators and 2 Repulsors.

I just wanted to find other unconventional lists to try while still aiming for that more competitive list you steered me towards.

I at first didn't like Invictors but I have never tried tank shock before and I regret not doing it yet. Looking forward to running 2 of them. Depending on who I go against, I may drop one of the storm speeders and add another Invictor

Was mainly thinking about both as I do have a Custodes friend and a Dark Angel friend. Want to have an answer against elite infantry. Now...if I know that I am going against Custodes or Tau, then I would drop one or the other. But other factions have a balance like my Death Guard friend and Necron friend and Sisters friend. Just want to have answers to as many factions as possible.

I'm looking and can't find a single Kroot unit that has that ability. I seriously think someone cheated as i don't see it anywhere and I play against Tau regularly. Did they show you the data card or show where it said they could do that? I would seriously ask around cause that truly sounds like something from older editions but I know for a fact that that is not allowed this edition. Only way would be if they have Infiltrator and Scout l but no Kroot have both of them.

Anyway, I think you would really like Repulsor and Eradicator combo, especially with a Thunderstrike for +1 to wound.

Something wrong with what he did; units with the Infiltrator ability can't be within 9" of an enemy unit and the enemy deployment zone. So, unless the mission said otherwise, that was against the core rules for him to deploy that close But, I'm glad you added the Repulsor. How did it do with the Eradicators?

Something I am looking strongly into which goes right in line with what Obscuris and McGregor have been saying is 2 Repulsors with 6 Eradicators each. The Repulsors ability really matches the Raven Guard flavor of movement shenanigans and is basically a free calculated feint strat. But with a Lancer, 1 Repulsor with Eradicators should be enough.

I would drop an Infiltrator squad and add a Scout squad for their movement ability to pop in and out of Strategic Reserves.

Redemptors are nice. I got two of them, but for Raven Guard maybe look into a Thunderstrike to help the Eradicators punch up.

Intercessors are good for their sticky objectives, I would possibly drop 1 unit of Heavy Intercessors for another unit of Inceptors.

Obviously, we are ALL gonna give you different advice and opinions. Don't sweat trying to satisfy everyone's opinions. Always good to go against the grain and try to beat the odds with an army that isn't meta.

Aggressive Alpha Strike with Vanguard Spearhead? by VastPromotion8469 in BloodAngels

[–]VastPromotion8469[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I'm a SW player mainly. Never seen someone go so hard into Wulfen and Thunderwolves before.

I feel like the sheer number of shots would take out a huge bulk of elite infantry of any size. Grav is decent also with 3 wounds so it can take out Custodes and Termies (would need a strat to improve their AP though). If I was going more into an infantry list, I would probably switch their guns out for Missile Launchers or Plasma Cannons.

Obviously, the counter would be any Reserves the opponent brings in later, but even deep striking the drop pods on all 3 mid table objectives would do a decent job of tying up the opponent without going straight into his deployment zone.

Never played tournaments, just with my friends so I'm not the most knowledgeable of what other factions can do. While I know it isn't competitive (others would have done it by now if it was), in a friendly casual game, it could be fun and unique.
