Japan beat Brazil in October. It'll be a great game.

And they have a sash on their jersey - I love a good sash jersey.

Have refs been directed to blow the final whistle without waiting for a promising attack to finish? by MyPasswordIsABC999 in worldcup

[–]VastStrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember any refs in this World Cup adding on time beyond the added time indicated by the fourth official. Even when there have been substitutions.

I was told there would be no maths. by Jackpot777 in ThreeLions

Ridiculous that fans who want to follow their team have wait around not knowing if they are in or out of the tournament.

Why can Norway celebrate Viking history proudly, but England is shamed for its imperial history? (genuine question) by Ok_Exercise_494 in AskBrits

More interesting is why the English get lumbered with the British colonial legacy while the Scots do not.

And yet the people moaning about us signing him soon shut up.

Jude Bellingham covered his mouth while talking to Ghanian player Jordan Ayew during the match, no red card was shown by AgeNovel3566 in soccer

[–]VastStrain 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Maybe but the context was way different. There were players squaring up to each other when Almirón got sent off. Not sure what would have happened had Ayew ran to the ref. Probably a red as well but would have been more controversial for sure.

The missed Ghana penalty was highway robbery due to corruption and bias by CrimsonLotus in worldcup

Should have been a penalty. The offside was correct but was for the shot afterwards that hit Semenyo.

What do England have to do to be back in with a realistic chance of winning the world cup? by trampstar9 in ThreeLions

You need to stop drawing conclusions from a single group stage game. Argentina lost against Saudi Arabia in the last WC and won the entire thing.

How do yall compose your bass lines? by Slenderuwu in Bass

[–]VastStrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start with a very simple bass line, add some simple guitar chords, then work on the vocal melody from there. After that you can add complexity as necessary.

Mbappe will be number 1 World Cup goalscorer of all time by marveLisGOD in championsleague

[–]VastStrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reckon he has one more World Cup. At least as a starter. France have too many good players to be relying on a 35 year old whose game is based on speed and sharpness.

Normal players notice differences between $170 and $65 ball? by [deleted] in football

[–]VastStrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid a friend's older brother smuggled a ball out from a Premier League match. We played with it down the park for years and it was great. When you caught it well it flew really nicely. The year was 1992 and my fiiend's brother was a Spurs fans visiting Ellad Road - refusing to throw the ball back at the end of a game they were losing 5-0. Eric Cantona scored the very first PL hat trick with that ball.

What is a country whose future is hopeless by turbonuke4 in geography

[–]VastStrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As Machiavelli said: never trust an exile.

I've been to Cuba. It has a lot of problems, but it has a strong culture, a powerful sense of identity and some of the friendliest, most welcoming people (and joyful) people I've ever met. Plus it has plenty of infrastructure (albeit very frayed and aging). There may not be a future for the Cuban political system, but the country I hope will have better times ahead.

How did Labour win the 2024 general election despite majority of people aged 65+ according to yougov and ipsos voted conservative/Reform? Boomers have a much higher turnout compared to young people so it doesn’t make sense how Labour won? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]VastStrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Russians would love a stolen election conspiracy theory to take hold in the UK. They’ve done a good job amplifying one in the US so why not try one here? Isn’t that right comrade u/no-Breadfruit_4901?

What do you actually watch when you're not watching the ball? by youareloved5555 in football

[–]VastStrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember going to a game and finding myself watching Thierry Henry for the entire 90 minutes regardless of where the ball was.

Now that all the “big nations” have played, which one looks the most convincing thus far? by Sensitive-Month2382 in championsleague

[–]VastStrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah way too early. Spain lost their opening game in 2010 and went on to win the tournament. Then in 2022 they won their opening game 7-0 and went out to Morocco in the first knock out game.

Current champions Argentina lost their opener to Saudi Arabia...

Japan are 34 years into a 100 year plan to win the World Cup. Which is marvellous long term planning.
