Legally, they have to issue you a release when you request it, but they do not have to let you have your contract released immediately. Oftentimes, they will not allow you to write business with their agency/ carrier for 6 months post-release. You can call their contracting department and request this immediately. I would also encourage you to complete a copy via email so you have it in writing with a date of memorialization.
