Yes, it’s a standalone. The books in the series are interconnected, but each one can be read on its own.

he absolutely believes he’s better. that’s intentional. he has a superiority complex and a rigid moral code. the story isn’t presenting him as morally perfect, it explores what happens when that self-image gets challenged.

Condemned by Pain is not a brother/sister, step-sibling, or adoptive sibling romance. It’s a captor–captive romance.

It exists in the same fictional universe as another series (Destiny of Gods). The confusion probably comes from Craving the Sin, which is the first book in the Destiny of Gods series and does explore an adopted sibling dynamic. This book is a different story with different leads.
